    Eggs! Finally!

My pullets are all between 25 and 31 weeks, and they finally started laying about 2 weeks ago. I have 13 pullets and getting about 3-6 eggs a day so far. Every time I go out and find a new egg, I feel like a kid on Christmas! I’m so excited y’all! Check out these gorgeous eggs. All the colors of...

11 week old chick died without warning

I just recently became a chicken mom so I'm still new to a lot of this. Sadly we lost our first chicken last night. Gotta say, I wasn't nearly prepared for how devastating that was going to be! My best guess is she became overheated, since she hasn't shown any signs of illness. We're in Texas...

    Runt or peanut?

Update: Well we did end up with a little peanut. He hung on for several days, but began to deteriorate around day 5 and we lost him on day 7 . Thankfully, though, we have 4 healthy, chunky little babies growing like weeds! Here are my adorable little balls of fluff:

Roosters in town and sex links

There are plenty of people looking for roos to expand their own flocks that rehoming is a perfectly acceptable option for unexpected roos. Why exactly would we toss cockerels that are barely developed into the fryer when other people want them for reproductive purposes and are willing to let...

Roosters in town and sex links

Again. IF we get straight run, we KNOW there is a chance of getting roos. In which case we re-home them. You seem to be the only person who has an issue with that . I also (as well as literally every chicken owner I know) have gotten a roo or two from an order of sexed female chicks at one point...

Roosters in town and sex links

Um, the difference is, we may not know that we have roosters when we get them. That's kind of the point of this thread. There would be little possibility of my thinking I'm getting a Chihuahua and ending up with a great Dane by accident and needing to re-home it.

Roosters in town and sex links

Your comparison makes zero sense. Did I say I "went out and got chickens despite regulations"? I adopted perfectly healthy chicks to prevent them from being culled. If you're asking if I would Foster a perfectly healthy great Dane to prevent him from being euthanized, then my answer is absolutely.

Roosters in town and sex links

I teach in a rural district and every spring our ag center gives eggs to the campuses to hatch. After hatch, the chicks are either adopted or culled. Our campus hatched 5 chicks and no one wanted them, so I adopted all 5. I live in a "4 max, no roo" area, but I took them all anyways knowing...

What color are my mini rex rabbits?

https://wildriverrabbitry.weebly.com/mini-rex-color-guide.html This color guide should help! Silver Martens also come in a lighter lilac. Could also be a Blue or Lilac Otter depending on markings.

What color are my mini rex rabbits?

Your babies look like mine! I'm new to this bunny business, but from my own research, it looks like you have a Blue Silver Marten and a Harlequin. These are my babies!

    Runt or peanut?

They are mini Rex. We're not sure if he's eliminated any waste.. is there a way to stimulate him to do so? We started weighing him on the kitchen scale tonight during one of his supplemental feeds. Mom has been feeding them early in the morning so we are going to weigh him again after and just...

    Runt or peanut?

New bunny mom here. We recently acquired 2 rabbits, a doe and a buck. Turns out the doe was already 3 weeks pregnant when we got her... Surprise! She had 5 kits on July 4, so 3 days old now. I'm wondering if this baby is just a runt or a peanut. We've been trying to supplement feedings but he...

    First coop in progress!

It's going to be an open front design with hardware cloth, plus removable panels for winter. The top will remain open for ventilation. We are in Texas so it gets pretty hot and humid.

    First coop in progress!

Thanks! Yes, we bought some red and white barn paint. Unfortunately storms are getting ready to roll in and stick around for a few days. Trying to get the roof done before they start, then hopefully paint middle of next week.

    First coop in progress!

We initially bought a pre-fab coop from tractor supply but learned quickly that it isn't going to fit our girls for very long. We began construction on our first build yesterday and my husband is rocking it. I love it so far! And so do our girls who are already checking it out.
