Raising Chicks without heat in the summer

I raised about 40 to 50 chicks last year in a large brooder in my garage, starting the first group in about March. When they were old enough I moved them to a separate outdoor small coop with a hoop run, then let them free range with all of my other adults (I had sold all but 10). My problem...

    Blue Partridge Brahma

I wish. I ended up losing ALL of my Brahmas this summer to a coyote. Including my full grown rooster. I purchase my brahmas from Angela Panacci. If you search on facebook for Chicks in Bloom, it should take you to her blog and you can message her. She is in Edmond.

ISO Show/Heritage Quality Barred Plymouth Rocks

I have been breeding my barred rock hens to my partridge Brahma rooster and have created some beautiful blue cuckoo Brahmas. I would like to use better hens to continue the project. Mine are from Tractor Supply and are good for what they are but I would like better. Does anyone have hatching...

Faverolles x Barred Rock. Sex link?

I wondered the same thing. I hatched out 7 chicks from a blue partridge brahma roo crossed with barred rock hens and got 4 silver to dark gray chicks and 3 blackish ones that look like my rocks did as chicks. Wondered if they were sex linked.

    Urgent! New hens, big problems!

Could that be from leg mites? Some of the weird scaliness? Kind of looks like some of the severe cases I have seen online.

To free range or to not free range? That is the question

I free range my chickens. We live out of town though surrounded by hundreds of acres with no close neighbors. I have lost one hen to predators this year and that was when I forgot to lock the coop pen that night. Mine are allowed to free range all day and they put themselves to bed at night then...
