So odd you said that about your EE's-- I have 3× 1.5yos and 5x Hatched this past spring and in 2+weeks have seen no EE eggs... My 10 brown layers are laying albeit not well but 4-6 a day from the 2x 1.5yos and 8 spring hatches. I wonder why there is a difference? We also supplement a few hours...
Than you so much for the help, that is a very helpful document!! I have a very hard time believing it's Mareks as she's 2 and has no other symptoms, nor do any other chickens. I guess my best bet is a visit to the chicken vet for some difinitive answers.
I have a 2yo EE hen that had been isolating herself from the group for a few weeks. Tonight I noticed one of her eyes is funky but the other is perfectly fine. I just saw something that said it could be Mareks?? I have 5 other chickens she's been with since day 1 and 13 new chickens that have...
Anyone care to help- the only other black and white EE I had turned out to be a roo. Add the red patches in the wings and I'm a bit paranoid -- the red is minimal and comb isn't pink. Can anyone give me a peace of mind?
How heartbreaking, I'm so sorry you lost them all. I agree there are many external factors that are out of Meyer's hands. I also believe some chicks are born more hearty and able to handle the stress of shipping, others are more fragile-- I hope you have better luck this time around Lizzy.
I do remember reading that so I'm not totally surprised they're dark. Any chance they will have coloring or will they be all black and nearly identical to the australorps? I was obviously hoping for blue but at the end of the day I really just wanted a dark brown egg layer- Marans all lay dark...
I just received my order from Meyers and think these are my two Blue Copper Marans. They're darker than I thought they would be (all the other chick pictures I've seen are more gray) They have fethered legs which is how I think I can tell them apart from my australorps and barred rock.
Thanks, I think you are right. She is definitely more red which is what caught my eye at first. Then I started questioning it and convinced myself she was another buff.
Are these three buff orppingtons? I ordered 2 buff orps and a meal maker and while one is a tad darker they are identical. Buff in color, no markings whatsoever and orange legs and feet.
Yikes. Sorry about your 2 DOA's :( Hope they weren't your Marans. I lost one, I'm pretty sure one of my Easter Eggers, my 2 Marans seem to be accounted foe. Everyone else looks great- tired and parched but healthy. I hope your 4 pull through. I don't think I'll ever mail order chicks again...
Just got the call from my PO- they're in. No tracking updates came through till 5:30 this morning - guess it did take them 32 hours to get from Cleveland to Madison, sad. Here's to hoping you get the same call and all our chicks are alive!
