I'm more concerned with what my friends would think if they found a surprise in an egg I give them. I'm used to seeing parasites on fish, and I still eat sushi (hard for a parasite to make the jump from fish to human).
I'm going ot mix in a little DE as a worm preventative, though I would...
Hey all,
No, I'm not a hypochondriac! I'm just wondering if my chickens were to contract something , is there anything that can get in the eggs that could cause concern as long as the eggs are cooked? I really don't want to find a worm in the apple so to speak! I let my chickens free range...
Note how the copperhead has the eyes on the side of the head and the water snake has it's eyes situated more on top (as it spends a lot of time with it's head partially submerged)
I've always had luck with letting the dog know that this is my teritory and stay out. Grab it by the scruff, yell loadly, drag it down the road and kick it in the butt as it runs. Paintballs sound like a good idea, completely non toxic (taste terrible though, had one break on my mask last week...
Could be a racoon or any number of wild or feral predators. They would take a duck back to a den, however it may be a young fox/coyote that's not up to snuff yet when it comes to hunting. Get a cheep game camera and set it up by the pond.
It's hunting the area. Right now it probably has a nest, so expect to see it often for a while. Depending on species they can have a teritory that they stay around.
Chicks will be a free meal to a hawk. Depending on the species it may not go after a full grown bird. Just put some wire or string above the area the birds are at, or cover a run for them. The hawks have plenty of other food sources and won't want to work hard for it once they find that they...
David,
My best bud/bird dog Apollo (a French Brittany) is an excellent pointer and gun dog. However he knows the difference between chickens and other birds. He loves to point and watch birds at the bird feeder and the birds we hunt, but I can put a chicken on his back!
It's all about...
That snake would be a tastey treat for a chicken. I beleive that only if it was attacked by the chicken (and the chicken would win!) would it even try to bite. If it's too big to swallow they generally leave it alone as they can't chew something in to pieces.
Too bad AccidentalFarm you don't...
I've had several octopus, and my wife and I used to breed bearded dragons. They take up little space, are easy to care for, and sell quite well. I also had a 75 gallon reef tank with all kinds of strange stuff. Our pigmy hedgehog died a few months ago after living for seven years (that's like a...
Animals can and do have the same ailments happen to them as human. It could have been a heart attack or anurism. As an example, one of my friends was deer hunting and was watching a squirel munching a nut, all of a sudden it just went ridgid and dropped.
The only way to tell for sure would be...
I tried separating it for the day, no effect. I even put alfalfa in for interest.
Can I trim it's beak a little? I've started to think I'll need to cull it.
One thing I've noticed is that this bird has a blood stain right under the nostiles, most likely had it since hatching...can't get it off.
I just got 6 EE chicks today. One has become extreamly agressive and goes straight for other chicks' eyes. I move it away, put it by the food, which it eats, then goes after another chick's eyes again! They're in a 40 gallon breeder tank with the right temps and food and water, just this chick...
When I was growing up on the farm (horses, no chickens), we bought 6 or so angus cattle to sell. I was 10 or 12, and I didn't have any problem sending them to market because I DID NOT NAME THEM!
It sounds funny, but I think what would absolutely keep me from processing a chicken is if my wife...
