    Just seeing what sex these chicks are to see if I was close. Sorry for the pictures for they wouldn’t act right for a photo shoot this morning.

    I respect those who keep breeds pure but I like mine interesting. Plan on swapping rosters every few years to keep it interesting and adding new genes into the flock.

    Who else hatch mixed breed chickens and gets excited on the different looking chics? It’s like opening presents on Christmas morning not knowing what you’re getting.

    Yes I know this doesn’t always apply. I have two hens with green legs and don’t lay color eggs. Something about genetics in the breed.

    Yes and I lucked up finding him. Day after my original roo died there was a chicken swap going on. He was the best looking with the gray/green legs so he has the color egg gene. Old folks love my blue and green eggs.

    On the barred pattern? It is one I am not planning on keeping anyway but I’m using them as learn experience. My new hatchlings came off my amercaunas and EE rooster. It was like Christmas on hatching day from all the different color chics that came out. Unfortunately a dog caught that rooster...

    I was going with roo from the comb but now you mentioned it my pure hens looked like too. So if I ended up with six hen out of six picking I’m glade I bought a new rooster the other day.

    Pic of the black and cold color the one behind it. You can’t see the head just the tail. Mother was barred and dad was EE.

    I got only one bird that has all that a 7 weeks old.

    The bar rock colored one has orange comb since about three weeks old and now is bigger and has wattels. Unfortunately I only have the rear end in one of these pictures. One more red one with more markings but the head looks the same as the one in the picture. Yeah I still got a lot of learning...

    So what do I look for at 7 to 8 week old chics. If I by comb color I only have one cockerel but two don’t have a comb at all. I attached two pictures.

    I have some 7 weeks and some getting pointed feathers so I’m starting to learn little day by day.
