That's fine but the hen was no wood duck. If you want others to chime in that these are wood ducks then fine but I'm letting this thread die. I was looking for ideas on how to go about this not a debate on what breed they are. I really don't care what breed but like I said the hen was a...
They are most definetely mallards. Grew up with mallards and the mom was definetely mallard. They've been eating store bought food we added water to make a mash.
No they are mallards. Got everything but food from the call ducks I had. Just didn't expect to be caring for ducks again or at least so soon. Gonna try to keep them from being handled. Hopefully that will help them adjust when we release them.
Well the ducklings hatched. The hen took off and we havent seen her again yet. I was at work and the neighbors and my youngest son saw them by themselves. I think she was trying to get them across the tracks which are too high for them to get over. I have four of them and three still...
Dont know any around here. I can raise them if need be unil they have their feathers then i have a good spot to take them where there are not alot of predators and plenty of water and food. If it comes to that they would have a better chance of survival then what lies ahead of them now.
Well we've been seeing her about the same time near dusk flying in from the south. My wife said she always comes from that direction. The creek is south of me but so are the railroad tracks (80+ trains a day) and numerous busy streets. There are at least a dozen or more streets to cross...
There is a small creek in the southern part of town. Have seen duck there before. I'm right in the middle of town with 16k people. Not sure why this spot was picked.
Haven't decided yet what to do. I won't mess with them unless one gets separated form the rest. I guess it will be one of those cross that bridge when I get there type of things.
Thanks. The scent stuff is a great idea. I will look into that for sure. My family will be on the alert if one of the ducklings (which I do not believe any have hatched) falls from the tree. I am not sure if they will survive that drop. I had call ducks and still have most of the stuff left...
We've been hearing a faint duck call now for a few days. Now we have found the source. There is a duck nesting in one of our trees. This is very neat as I am a huge fans of ducks and have owned call ducks in the past. My concern is that the nest is over 30 feet up and inside the tree. Also...

You are correct. In my 7+ years of building roof and floor trusses and component wall panels leads me to prefer the use of floor trusses. Unfortunatly the common has been I joists as such:
I myself do not like them but they do fill a need. Now I joists are different from 2x floor...
Then there are some shady construction practices going on. I'm pretty sure any self respecting building inspector would not allow 2x3s to be used for exterior walls as exterior walls are load bearing. 2x3s are not typically used in load bearing situations. I myself have never seen 2x3s used...
Now now. I like 2x3s. The can withstand about the same vertical stresses as a 2x4. They do not however have the same elastisity as a 2x4 so they are only close to equal to a 2x4 in vertical positions. They do make alot of floor truses made of 2x3s though.
