We've been hearing a faint duck call now for a few days. Now we have found the source. There is a duck nesting in one of our trees. This is very neat as I am a huge fans of ducks and have owned call ducks in the past. My concern is that the nest is over 30 feet up and inside the tree. Also I am several miles from any body of water and live near railroad tracks, have several stray cats about and we have recently seen foxes around. Not the best environment for them to survive if they manage to not die getting out of the tree. Not sure what breed they are yet. My wife thinks she saw the green head of a mallard at one time flying around the house. I am not sure what to do to help them survive. Any ideas? I will not be messing with them in any way but if any babies fall from the tree I am prepared to take care of them if needed. Not sure what to do here.

Thanks. The scent stuff is a great idea. I will look into that for sure. My family will be on the alert if one of the ducklings (which I do not believe any have hatched) falls from the tree. I am not sure if they will survive that drop. I had call ducks and still have most of the stuff left over if any do and I can take care of them until they have their feathers. There are ducks west of me at a large river but is still about 10 miles away I can take them if it comes to that.

Been a couple years since I last frequented this site. 12 hour shifts and kids graduating I had to give up my chickens and ducks due to lack of time to take care of them properly. I just for some reason feel a sense of responsibility since they are in my tree. Not figured that one out yet.

I recently saw a film I think it was on Nat GO that showed Mallard duckling falling out of a tree when mama flew out and into the lake. it was amazing how they just fell and bounced then got up and as a group started walking towards moms voice. that part I don't think there's a problem with unless the tree is right above asphalt. but keeping them safe after fall is going to be a major problem but what will you do about mom and once you take those babies they will not know how to survive when you release them, something mama teaches them. It doesn't always make sense why they want to nest so far away from a body of water and then try to get the ducklings to it. Big dilemma for sure.

Haven't decided yet what to do. I won't mess with them unless one gets separated form the rest. I guess it will be one of those cross that bridge when I get there type of things.

Please keep us updated I'd like to know how it ends and hopefully all the ducklings will make it, do you have any creeks near by? just wondering if mom and dad could live there and is one reason why she chose ya'lls tree.

There is a small creek in the southern part of town. Have seen duck there before. I'm right in the middle of town with 16k people. Not sure why this spot was picked.
