I have ducks in my tree

If they nested in a tree they are definitely wood ducks. Young wood ducks are very hard to get eating and drinking ecspecially when they are wild and they usually will die of stress from jumping in the box. Even captive birds are hard to raise for some people. We have twelve pairs and we always have problems with raising them. Try mealworms and boiled eggs and sprinkle it on their backs. Good luck!

They are most definetely mallards. Grew up with mallards and the mom was definetely mallard. They've been eating store bought food we added water to make a mash.

They seem to be eating ok. They made a mess with the water so that's why they are all wet. Haven't seen the hen at all.

We have been raising wood ducks for 25 years and I am positive those are wood ducks! I wish Destin or Mark would come and back me up from the ornamental thread. You should post this there too as they can also give you a lot more advice on raising these ducklings.

That's fine but the hen was no wood duck. If you want others to chime in that these are wood ducks then fine but I'm letting this thread die. I was looking for ideas on how to go about this not a debate on what breed they are. I really don't care what breed but like I said the hen was a mallard. I do know the difference between the two species. Anyway hopefully they survive and I can release them when their feathers come in and just let this thread head on down the pile.
