    Help please-old sick hen

I'm not sure what's going on, but she does seem sick. Doesn't seem like sour crop or impacted crop. I have had success with this Epson soak treatment, to help get things moving if there's a a blockage, or egg she can't pass. https://hencam.com/faq/the-spa-treatment/

Well, I was kinda wondering that as I looked into the hatchery more, and noted the EE chicks look just like the black ameraucanas. Thanks!

    Easter Eggers?

We just got a few new chicks from local feed store. We got 1 BO, 1 BR, 1 BA, and 3 EEs. In the past when we've gotten EEs, they've looked like Lil chipmunks, with variety light tan to dark brown. These 3 are all black, with white throats and butts. They do have fluffier cheeks, but just curious...

    Fox attack

I'm so sorry to hear about your buff orpington. The advice I got, was to keep her warm, possibly indoors, and in a safe area such as a dog crate. She needs her wounds cleaned, and offer her water with electrolytes. Keep her somewhere warm and quiet. Our girl seemed to be getting better within...

    Fox attack

update on Birdie... unfortantely she died over night. I feel so bad for her. I don't know if it was the shock, or the crop thing, maybe both. Poor Birdie. Thanks for the advice, I did give her some coconut oil last night, and massage her crop. She was resting and breathing normal when I went to...

    Fox attack

Thank you! I will definitely try the coconut oil, and massage. I'm hoping things are just slow to move with all the stress. She's resting, in a playpen in our house again tonight. We'll keep her inside until she's able to eat and drink, and had time to recover.

    Fox attack

The attack was yesterday afternoon, so its been more than 24 hours, and her crop is full/firm... she won't eat or drink. I've offered scrambled eggs, and moistened feed. I've syringed water. She mostly stands or lies in one spot. Shes pooping, but seems less often than normal, which I would...

    Fox attack

If I put her beak in the water, she would drink a small amount yesterday... but today, not at all. I can try with a syringe.

    Fox attack

Here are her wounds, they look painful, but dont think life threatening. I'm worried about the shock. My question is can the shock cause slow to empty crop? Or, did she have impacted crop before the attack, unknown to me? Could have made her an easier target possibly..

    Fox attack

Yesterday afternoon a fox attacked one of our hens. They were let out to free range, and we saw the fox with our buff orpington Birdie. I immediately ran out to scare him off and he let her go. She scrambled up to find cover. I picked her up, wrapped her in a towel, and brought her into the...

Heating coop in below zero temps

How do you heat? We are worried about fire hazard.

Heating coop in below zero temps

We live in eastern Iowa, and I'm also worried about the coming bitter cold. I've had chickens for 6 years, and we've had below zero temps without heating our coop. Expect frostbite, but they have done fine otherwise. We are trying to come up with a way to add supplemental heat for next week, as...

    Hen falling over/losing balance

It's a vitamin/electrolytes mix, it has Vitamin E but no B12. I will pick some up tomorrow. She hasn't been laying much for awhile, but a healthy layer when she did. I did not appreciate any swelling or bloating, but I will double check her again tomorrow. Thanks so much for your opinion/info!
