Yes, this used to work before global warming upset everything. I, now have water in the coop on top of a warmer as the excessive cold weather for the last few years has the water outside is frozen solid each day throughout the day. Inside , I put it on a cement block with smaller blocks around...
Absolutely, 4 sq per bird, maybe 3 for smaller hens, like cream legbars, and 10 in run, even tho they freerange some days, like was
mentioned, more makes happy chickens.
Thank you for that intelligent comment. Fortunately, my regular customers, neighbors, told me I should raise the price, because they noticed feed had goneup. I feel my eggs compare to freerange, organic at grocery store, which cost $8 to $9 a doz. I charge 5 0r 6 with return carton, important...
If they are cleaning up the food at every feed, they are starving. Why aren't you free feeding, they will not over feed, they regulate themselves. I keep feed in front of them 24 7 and never have fat hens. They all start laying at 5 to 7 months depending on breed.
I agree with that. By the time my lab was 6 months, she still went after chickens, her predictor instinct is overly strong. I have worked with her for almost 3 years, and she still salivates when around the chickens, so I make sure she is not left alone. I know, it is a bit of work, but I...
Wondered ow long it would take for someone to mention LGD. That is the only 100% answer to predators'. I had a /great Per, who lived in the barn and orchard with the chickens, never lost one in the years I had her. Do not get a pet, get one who has lived with chickens, or sheep, goats, etc...
Another great idea, I had considered vinyl also, went with the 3 coats of paint. I forgot to mention that I scrape the poop board with an old hoe, into a bucket, chickens do most of their pooping at night and are out in the yard during the day. Works for me.
