    Iowa Blue Cockerel in Colorado

Hello, I am also in Colorado and am interested in the Iowa Blue. Do you still raise them? If so, would you have chicks or hatching eggs available this spring/summer? Thank you!

    Hen acting like drunken sailor

She is average weight for her size of bird. She isn't skinny and hasn't dropped any weight. She looks good, except for her rear end wanting to pop up over her head...

    Hen acting like drunken sailor

Saturday night when I went in to feed and put my birds to bed, I noticed that one of my hens was careening crazily around the chicken coop and slamming into things. I moved her to a solitary cage and she is eating and drinking ok. Seems to be pooping. I don't feel an egg or anything else wrong...

Welsh Harlequin ducklings and a cross

I have 3 ducklings hatched out by my hens that I have separated from the rest of the flock so I can make sure they get food, etc., (All of my ducks are together with about 30 chickens.) They are about 2 months old now I think. I believe I have one hen and one drake that are purebred Welsh, and...

Beltsville White vs. MIdget White for meat birds

I am thinking the best way for me to learn which would suit me better is to get a half dozen or so of each breed and raise them to butcher. That might be the easiest way! So I'll be looking for breeders for both. Any suggestions?

Beltsville White vs. MIdget White for meat birds

I am interested in purchasing the smaller turkeys to fill a niche for meat in my area and am curious as to what exactly is the difference between the Beltsville Whites and the Midget Whites. Sometimes they seem to be basically the same thing, other places I get the impression they are quite...

    Dead ducklings

Thank you for your advice WVduckchick! I will definitely look there too. My husband bought a thermometer from them a few years ago, and I believed it worked fine. UPDATE on the eggs...I had to bring the three ducklings into the house as it has really dropped temperature-wise here and she was...

    Dead ducklings

Quick update - I cracked open three eggs this morning and found 1 half grown duckling, dead, one that basically exploded on me and one that had no duckling inside. And even tho' she was laying on them, most felt cool to the touch. I think I am going to start taking them away from her after I try...

    Dead ducklings

I am rigging up something so she can get into some water during the day. Will see if that works. Sure hope a few more will hatch out!

    Dead ducklings

I am doing a quick search for chick dead-in-shell and this showed up on https://www.beautyofbirds.com/deadinshell.html "Special Note about Duck / Goose Eggs: Dave Holderread in his book, 'Storey's Guide to RAISING DUCKS" recommends that duck / goose eggs be sprayed or sprinkled with warm...

    Dead ducklings

They were only off the eggs for maybe 5-10 minutes, at most, when /i moved them. When they were in the other part of the coop, one or both would go get a quick drink and food, but I don't think they were ever off for too long.

    Dead ducklings

How do you know that this duckling wasn't ready to hatch? There are three at least like this one. What caused them to die in the shell? I am totally new at trying to hatch out ducks, so any information would be awesome! I only moved them into the crate, then carried the crate to the other pen...
