    Breese hens molting problem

Thank you very much. Just looked into the pinless peeper. I've seen them in passing over the years for sale but never paid attention to their uses. This could be the answer. Yes they get higher protein feed during molt. I've seen cannibalizing each other but not themselves before. I do think...

    Breese hens molting problem

3 of 9 breese hens we have molted this season and never grew feathers back. Even worse is one of the two was eating her own flesh. They lost ALL their back feathers. Far more than any hens we've ever had before. From the base of their necks down to the tip of their tails. Put saddles on them...

    OMG everybody's Broody!

I don't remember the sizes of our grow out pens. We have raised groups in the same pens for several decades. We move them around for fresh grazing. We feed milk to all our grow outs. Both by fermenting their feed in it, fresh or clabbered when we have that available. We have a lot of milk so...

    OMG everybody's Broody!

I have bresse from several different breeders. I don't recommend them personally. At least not from any of the breeders I purchased from. Not been a good experience all the way around. Partly because we don't feed like they do in France I'm sure. I have done a milk fed/fermented feed batch of...

    OMG everybody's Broody!

I have 3 broody Bresse hens out of 9 bresse and Australorp hens. 1 just hatched eggs and 1 just got DOCs. The 3rd will be stopped now that the other two have chicks. The 3rd is an awful mother and on the cull list anyways. I try and keep some hens for broodiness. The australorps are usually...

Anyone have any suggestions on selling a battery quail cage and quail when I don't have social media? Think craigslist would be an option?

    From quail to chickens

They will be automatically turned in the incubator. So far other than slightly longer incubation time it's the same as quail. That's fantastic. Thank you to all who have commented. ❤️

    From quail to chickens

Hey all, I've now done a few runs of quail eggs successfully and have decided that quail just aren't for us. I've swapped the rails in our incubator to start hatching our chicken eggs to raise meat birds from them. Normally we just wait for a broody hen to raise batches for us but I'm ready to...

Before I started hatching my own that is where I got my day old chicks from. Very nice folks. They raise a lot of them and they were very thrifty chicks. I believe they usually have them available on Fridays but that may change throughout the year. They said they have them year round when I got...

First time incubating coturnix eggs - 93 degree temps :(

Mine started hatching this afternoon (day 16). Last time they all hatched day 17 and 18. Just never know. I keep the incubator going until all remaining eggs candled show they aren't viable anymore then I'll shut it down. So glad you held out and got chicks from them! Congratulations!
