Total newbie here when you say elevated coop I am not sure exactly what you mean. This is my very first coop and I would do a hundred things different but it was a blast, it did the job but it took me forever and is way over built it would withstand a hit from the oak tree next to it falling...
Ummm, how does this work, will you let the run continue under that raised part which I presume is the hen house? I love it regardless just wanting to follow this thread better! Great work!!
Thanks I have some homework obviously. Her crop was kinda empty this afternoon but I saw her eat this morning. She did get better and moved around a bit later in the day. Thanks so much.
Ummmm. This is my first flock and my first sick chicken. How often does this sort of thing happen and do...
Green Bean has been out of it for a week now. Her four flock mates and she just turned three and they are feisty and laying prolifically but lately Green Bean has been groggy and sluggish as if sick but the others are just fine. Her comb shrunk. She eats and drinks but sometimes but not every...
No not that we could ascertain. The vet tech has worked with birds not chickens at work but he said it could be like a hairline fracture that might heal. She acts like the pain is radiating from the bottom of her foot but that could just be pain radiating from a joint. I can’t find anything...
Sky has been limping for a week. One leg she can’t put any weight on but she is drinking and eating and slowly learning to sort of get around. I had a vet tech near me do total body assessment and did not find any broken bones and we are hoping it’s just soft tissue (possible predation attempt...
Hello gang these responses have been wonderful. The ladies are doing great. Egg production chart to follow. Also. I am starting to see feathers. I am in northern New Jersey at about a thousand feet. Just updating anyone following along (and for posterity if someone searches this in the...

This suggests they might choose to keep these for just one year and then make soup when they start their first molt 😬 (not cool).
What is the case for sex linked crosses for laying hens?
I *did* search the forums before asking this if someone wants to direct me to some reading etc. I found a lot of nuisances about things people like about a particular cross and obviously they are easier to sex when hatched 👍
Cornish Rock...
What is the case for sex linked hybrids? Obviously it’s easier to identify the hens at birth! Other than that does it get any better than white leghorns?
wow. More reading I need to do on the differences between breed and landrace. Because after 2020? It’s possible to imagine that the diversity of preserved genetic material in your flock could be humanity’s salvation!
…or as you say a complete waste of time!! But unlikely a *complete* waste...
Wow glad I asked that is another great read.
who else does this? Your approach seems wonderfully chaotic! How amazing would it be if you did in fact come up with a new breed by just breaking all conventions and just doing what works for the desired results. I truly can’t wait to see what you...
