    Rhode Island Red Feathers

Didn't know that about molting, we always raised meat birds so this flock is my first egg producers. I was afraid I was missing something since I wasn't seeing anything like mites, lice etc. (although my eye sight isn't as good as it used to be). Thanks for all the input.

    Rhode Island Red Feathers

I do have a rooster, but haven't noticed that he prefers her to any of the others. He spreads the love around - LOL. Thanks.

    Rhode Island Red Feathers

Can someone tell me what is causing one of my Rhode Island's feather to look like this (see pictures). She is 1 year old (hatched Spring 2016) and is very active. I call her Road Runner because she is always first to get anything I feed them whether it is food, or treats or bugs. She always...

Sussex Hen 2 days in egg box

I went to this on Called Broody Hen? https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/broody-hen.1174604/ And that is exactly what my sussex has been doing for the last two days. So maybe she is just broody. Should I remove the fake eggs for a while? Thanks.

Sussex Hen 2 days in egg box

My sussex hen has been in the egg box of the coop for several days, and no egg. I am not sure if she is egg bound or just sitting on the fake egg. I took her out and set on the ground and my other hens attacked her immediately. I stopped that right away. I put her on a raised board and cleaned...

    Bonded rooster and hen

Welcome! From Colorado. I am new to the group as well. I am in the same situation - I have a rooster and live in a neighborhood that doesn't have any rules on this as we are actually zoned as farming (Some people have horses, chickens, and have even seen pigs). My rooster crows now in the...

Mine was named Wyatt - as a puppy he had gotten his last set of shots and we were staying in the mountains with some friends as I was waiting to close on my house. I hadn't settled on a name for him yet. Due to the shots and driving the curvy mountain roads, he got sick and threw up in my truck...

Thank you. That is a nice looking lab. I love labs. I just lost my black lab 2 years ago. He would have retrieved my birds LOL.

I finally decided to join this site as I have been reading and finding answers for a while now. Mostly to do with what I can feed them other than their normal feed. I was raised on a mid-west farm and we raised chickens mainly for butchering among other livestock. I haven't been on a farm for...
