    broken leg & green poop

I have an older hen who has what I think is a broken leg. She's had the broken leg for 2 weeks and is in a smaller crate in our house. We splinted it until just recently. The leg looks better and is way less swollen. We use puppy pads in the crate and change it every day so she is not...

Better to break up fights or let them sort it out?

I also have a question on new rooster squabbles. I have 6 meat birds I hatched out around July 4th. They free ranged today for the first time. They are now back in their hutch and run locked in for the night and I noticed 3 roosters (I assume) getting into a fight. I've never seen a 3 way...

How long to lock in new home before free range?

very helpful info thanks so much. I'll start letting them out next weekend and train them to come when I call. My other hens do that when I shake the hen scratch bucket. Thanks again,

How long to lock in new home before free range?

I just moved my 3 month old hens in the coop with my older hens. Since they are new to the coop, how long do I need to lock them in the coop and run before allowing them to free range? Does it take awhile for them to learn their "new home" and head back there at night?

Can I free range 3.5 month olds?

Thanks for the quick response. I'll pick up some flock raiser today My understanding is that I shouldn't give my older hens the chick start because it is medicated and we eat the hens' eggs. Is this correct??

Hi, I'm new to BackYard Chickens Forum and have really enjoyed reading everyone's posts. This strand seems to relate to my concern. I have 13 chicks hatched the end of Feb. They are a mix of heavy and crested breeds. Right now they are free ranging during the day and in their own stall to...
