Hi all - we're thinking ahead and would love to get a few (3 or 4) Muscovy ducks, but we're really not in a position to have male ducks. We've used Metzer in the past for other breeds, but it looks like they only sell unsexed Muscovies, does anyone know where you can get sexed Muscovy ducklings...
We got ours from Metzer, and I’d say it was a mediocre experience. They sent us one injured duckling who died within a week, and didn’t send our whole order - following up with them wasn’t great.
But that aside, their Welsh harlequins aren’t the vivid white I expected- they are pretty, but not...
Hi, we’re in Bellevue and have two 4 month old Welsh harlequin girls and have been talking about adding a third to the group. I posted a thread just a week or so on this actually!
If you’re still interested in rehoming your sweet girl we would be interested in talking with you. Just let me...
Yup, that’s ours too. They quack like mad when they see us, stopping when I go into their yard or talk to them, but they won’t let me get within 2 feet of them. Ducks offer a strange kind of love 🙂
I have one that does this as well and have been trying to figure out what it means. In my case I'm leaning towards a dominance behavior. We only have two ducks, I think they like our company but they won't let us pet them. The one who does that up my arm thing is the subservient one of the...
I've been thinking this exactly - we got Welsh harlequins in part because I read they were among the calmer breeds, but it seems lots of people have loud / high strung ones. Do you have any recommendations for a small or medium size duck that is known to be calmer? I get it's still ultimately...
Thanks everyone! We had a third duckling but she died at a few weeks old, RIP Stripes. I've also worried about the impact on one duck if one died. We have a bonded pair of rabbits and have the same concern.
It's good to know that their personalities are what they are. I'm leaning towards...
Hi all, I know there isn't a clear answer, but I'm curious if anytime has an opinion.
We live in the city and currently have two Welsh harlequin females. They have a 4x8 coop, a 40 gallon stock tank and a 20x20 yard just for them. They are right off our deck so we engage with then all the...
The drake is the one in the back of the photo you posted, you can see the tail feather that curls up.
What kind of feeder do you use? I wonder if they might be part of the issue.
I’m new to ducks, but I can say that I’m really surprised how skittish they are and how skeptical they are of...
Ugh, same thing here, we’re in Seattle. Our ducks have seemed uneasy since the smoke moved in - they aren’t exactly laid back in the best of times, but they seem more skittish and louder now. I just saw that the air quality isn’t supposed to improve until at least Thursday when we’ll get some...
The mail delivery slow down has been an issue for us - we’re due several packages from my in laws in the UK (legos, not ducks) and they are significantly delayed. Also, UK to US postage has recently gone up - we got some serious sticker shock recently. So all that to say, for multiple reasons...
