Hi there! Thanks in advance for reading/any thoughts you have!
Backstory: My hens (no rooster) were attacked by a fox on May 1st. The fox came out in the middle of the day in broad daylight while my girls were free ranging. Luckily my boyfriend heard something that alarmed him and he ran out...
We’re neighbors!! There are lots of great ideas on Pinterest for a fodder system, I just figured there a lot more experience with what works and what doesn’t on this site.
Hi All!
I am planning on starting a fodder system for my chickens (I only have 5 backyard hens). I live in Buffalo, NY and this time of the year fall is starting and the chickens have torn up all our grass. To prepare for the winter months I've been doing some research into how to keep up their...
I certainly hope this is temporary! I've read that chickens can be prejudice against others of a different look or color. The hen being attacked is the only black one we have. Because of that I'm nervous that this will be a constant struggle and my poor hen sounded so pained :(
Thanks! Is it to the point they should be separated? Everything I've read states to not intervene until absolutely necessary. She hasn't drawn blood yet but I'm getting concerned. Primarily I wasn't sure if this was happening because she just started laying and it's a temporary thing or if I...

They are approx. 4 months old and I have 3 different breeds (rhode island red, leghorn, and amberlink). 3-4 (not positive 4 are laying but def 3) of my babies are laying as of last week and are offered a bowl...

Hi I'm Kate! I live in Elma NY, right outside of Buffalo. The weather here can be tumultuous so I figured this is a nice way to connect with others who have similar weather. I've been reading the forums for a few months now but I'm in need of more specific chicken information now that my babies...
