    Mean Hen

My original flock is 2 Astrolorps, 2 Barred Rocks, 1 Buff Orpington, and 1 hen of dubious lineage(sold to me as Buff Orpington, but is red with a white tail and belly). They are all hens and 2 years old. About 6 weeks ago I was given 3 Silkie/ Cochin mixes. After the usual separation by a fence...

No. They have a 12’x12’ run, which I just doubled the size of to 12x24’.

I feed the 6 of them total, a quart of laying crumbles, plus 1 cup of chicken scratch a day. Is that enough?

    Bears?

Thanks for the reply. I’m from West Virginia. We don’t have a lot of bears around us, but every few years, we’ll have one come through the neighborhood. No sign of him trying to get into the coop and it doesn’t eat the food after he turns it over.

    Bears?

Something has been getting into the bucket that I keep extra feed in. This has happened during the day. We have a bear in the neighborhood, so I wondered if it could be the culprit, and if is, how big of a danger are my ladies in?

    coop and night time.

Hopefully your coop has plenty of airflow and a window. Leave you chicks in the coop for several days. Hopefully when you then let them out in the run, they will go back in the chcken house about dusk. It worked for mine.

    Niacin for chicks

purchased 6 chicks and 2 ducklings. I have heard that I Ned to supplement the ducks with niacin. If I put it in the food or water, will it hurt the chicks?
