    Hello.. just searching for information.

hi, everyone ... I've been so distracted lately. It has been a year since Leon's death and this January has really been difficult. I noticed this question and realized I never got back to everyone. Your advice worked. I want to thank everyone that gave me advice. I was in tears when I joined...

    Hello.. just searching for information.

Good evening. Well, I did it. 8 PM on a dark, dark evening. I didn't want to wait until later because we have wild animals locally. It has been a whole month since I put Ariel in coop in a dog kennel. Tonight I opened the door and tied it open. I am terrified the other hens will attack her...

Winter Chicken Care In The Mid-West

I've noticed that. Every morning this week just about.. Bernice, especially, dives into the ice pieces as soon as they hit the ground. I've had to be careful not to get her wet!

It looks like fun. I'm near Goldendale WA ... .pretty area, really in love with it. I can see Mt. Adams from my back deck.

    Hello.. just searching for information.

Hi, again, a friend suggested a few drops of Brandy in the chicken's water to slow down freezing... does anyone have any idea whether this would work and how many drops per gallon or quart it would take? Would it harm my hens? I definitely don't want to harm my ladies. They have been molting...

    Adding protein during a molt

I've been giving them my regular cat food but it is lower in calories because I've got a cat who is massively overweight ... (don't ask me why, I've not a clue. His sister is a skinny beauty with the softest fur!) I'm going to buy meow mix.. another question. I read something about giving...

    Hello.. just searching for information.

I showed Ariel to one my neighbors several weeks ago and she looked down at me and bent over..(not hard to do, I'm 4 ft 8 and said in a serious voice : 'you do realize that you are talking to a chicken, don't you?' I realized I had been talking directly to Ariel like she was a little kitten...

    Adding protein during a molt

Hi, I remember my husband giving the chickens raw pork (I cut it up, that is why I knew about it) during molting. IS it safe to give them hamburger while they are molting? Should I cook it or give it to them raw? .. .been searching for an hour and i can't seem to find an answer -- thanks...

    Hello.. just searching for information.

I think having my little flock and 2 house cats is keeping me alive. The grief gets unbearable. I don't mean to make this seem ominous, it is just caring for them helps me feel connected to love and beauty.. someone or something to take care of... I like doing it .

    Hello.. just searching for information.

I am going to 'do it by the book' as soon as Ariel's comb really looks healed. I would love to see her with her little flock. They are all 2-3 yrs old and we never had problems before I fixed the floor. I've put a dog kennel into the coop and by the time Ariel heals, they should accepted its...

    Hello.. just searching for information.

Hello -- today I reintroduced little Ariel back into her flock. I had set everything up ..but she kept slamming herself against the kennel's bars and I made the mistake of freeing her ... she is now bloody again and in the garage.. I am devastated. Please ... should I just do the process again...

    Adding protein during a molt

Really that easy? I'll have to try that tonight. I've not gotten an egg out of them in several weeks~ Oh, and a question.. do you know if they are calm enough during molting to introduce one of my chickens back into the flock?

    Hello.. just searching for information.

Hi, everyone... Ariel is back to her cute, sweet normal. She is very restless. I have actually held her for a few minutes every evening. It was for me, more, than her. I know there is just a little bird brain in there, but, well, I like her. I feel silly, but that is that. A hen buddy...
