    I'm glad to hear this. But 40 chickens?! Wow. The most I ever had was 25 and I lived on half an acre in the NE. Do you have a coop for them or just let them roam in your yard? I'm thinking, great bug conteol!

    Thank you very much. I will leave her be. I was wondering though I have a huge 10 gallon waterer. Should I put rocks in it so the chicks don't drown? Or would it be better to put the hen and babies in a separate cage with food and water for a week or so, in the coop?

    2 hatched last night! Now my speckled Sussex has kicked her and the chick out to a different nest and is brooding on the remaining eggs. I think I'm going to move the chicks into a brooder and ham raise them so they'll be friendly and I won't have to worry about my layers eating chick feed.

    Honestly I've tried feeding my chickens slugs and none of them ate them. But this chicken is new to my flock in the last 2 months, so she may be eating them. I will make sure never to do that again.
