ENORMOUS lash egg stuck in abdomen

Oh and 4. I don’t suppose there’s any chance the lash egg will be absorbed back by the body itself????

ENORMOUS lash egg stuck in abdomen

One of my lovely 3y/o isas has what i am speculating as a lash egg the size of a baseball inside her abdomen. As background, she’s been a dodgy layer since day dot, and has laid many lash eggs in the past and gotten over countless associated infections. She hasn’t laid an egg or had an...

    Ascites disappearing?!

Hen in question is 2 years old, isa brown. Otherwise healthy, eating drinking fine. For several months my hen has had fluid accumulating in her abdomen. I got the vet to drain it and the fluid was a dark green, but not chunky. With the fluid removed I was able to feel a mass, about the size of...

Tips for diagnosing a swollen bottom?

I chickened out draining her myself, and took her to the vet. The vet was able to drain about half of it before the chicken got restless and we decided to call it quits. The liquid was dark green, but not opaque. No doubt we could get more liquid out, but already there’s got to be a lot less...

Tips for diagnosing a swollen bottom?

I’ve considered, but I’ve heard that egg binding can kill within days. This has definitely been a building issue for at least a month now, and her health is fine. I’d also expect to be able to feel them. I’m not sure if pictures will show you anything, but I’ll try for some tomorrow morning :)

Tips for diagnosing a swollen bottom?

Hi all. I have a hen whose bottom has been getting larger within the last month, during which period she has stopped laying (normal for this time of year anyway). Her abdomen feels firm, but not solid. It’s squish-able but not squishy. Symmetrical and no solid characteristics or landmarks. It...

    Canker or fowl pox?

Thank you for your reply. I was able to get a clearer picture today, and managed to catch and assess her. She’s actually a friend’s hen so I don’t see her often. The inside of the mouth is completely clear of any infection. No pus anywhere, including down the throat and the top of the mouth...

    Canker or fowl pox?

Forgot to mention - you can see in the picture that the nasal cavity has been enlarged too

    Canker or fowl pox?

Hello, does anyone have any insight as to what I may be dealing with here and how to treat? There is black around the mouth area and the nose cavity is filled with a white mass. First seen 2 weeks ago, has since been isolated. Age is unknown. Healthy weight, regular layer. Breath smells fine (I...

Hen trying to mate with other hen and prolapsing!

Yes, I’m aware the hen-on-hen action is common without a rooster, but I’ve just never looked so close to see what their... cloacas... are doing 😬 I was quite alarmed to see hers hanging out afterwards! Obviously when it’s a hen and a rooster I’d expect their cloacas to kiss, but I didn’t think...

Hen trying to mate with other hen and prolapsing!

I just watched my hen hump another hen so vigorously that her vent was prolapsed for the next twenty seconds. She stood there upright, dripping out liquid, before she sucked it back up again and continued on her merry way. Is this...... normal? Is a more serious prolapse possible in the future...

    Chicken has white face!

Th Thanks for this suggestion! I was previously unaware that leg mites could affect other places. It would make a lot of sense too, since we are currently treating another hen with scaly leg mites on her feet. I did a little research and the pictures of face scaly mites are a lot more...
