You really don't need a rooster unless you want to raise chickens. Our Bard Rock is my wife's favorite. She is a great layer and just a pet. She is the first to greet us and always wants a handout. We can not pick her up and hold her. Our no. 1 pick.

I have 8 banty eggs in a nest and 4 hens. They are fertile eggs. All 4 are laying but none are actually setting on the eggs. I hate to let them keep laying as they can't cover them all. Should I mark them and take out the new ones or let mother nature take care of it.
Guinea's would solve your tick problem and I don't think the fence will kill them. I have a electric fence around my pen but when a bug runs by they stick their heads through and get shocked but they still try to get the bug so it must not hurt them to much. Glad to have you abourd and good luck...
