    I only have Buff hens but they get along great with my bantums and even the bantum rooster are in love with the hens.

    New to back yard chicken

    You really don't need a rooster unless you want to raise chickens. Our Bard Rock is my wife's favorite. She is a great layer and just a pet. She is the first to greet us and always wants a handout. We can not pick her up and hold her. Our no. 1 pick.

    Advice please!

    I have 8 banty eggs in a nest and 4 hens. They are fertile eggs. All 4 are laying but none are actually setting on the eggs. I hate to let them keep laying as they can't cover them all. Should I mark them and take out the new ones or let mother nature take care of it.

    I was able to get some Welsummer hens just started laying from Craigslist. Try that and good luck. Oh Love my Welsummer and Australorp.

    Guinea's would solve your tick problem and I don't think the fence will kill them. I have a electric fence around my pen but when a bug runs by they stick their heads through and get shocked but they still try to get the bug so it must not hurt them to much.     I have a banty that laid our first egg. I want her to raise little ones but she does,t sit on it. It's cold now in the 40's but wind chill 31. Do i take up the egg or let it stay and hope she or others-3- lay more and sit on them? Yes I have a rooster! Thanks.
