I have never really noticed it either. It has only been lately that they will come by me when I go in the run. I think they are starting to like me more now that I have been giving them treats from the garden. I'm going to start going out and sitting with them some more.
I know I have asked this before but I have had my flock for 18 weeks now and I'm really starting to question the sex of them. I'm just guessing by the size of the combs and waddles. I have been told that the one was just a dominant female but now I can see 3 that have bigger combs and waddles...
Hello everyone. I just finished my run and chicken math has hit me. I'm picking up 3 more girls tomorrow. What's the best way to introduce them to the 6 I already have? They will all be the same age give or take a week. Also when should I start thinking about opening up my nesting boxes? My...
So I have just went through my first 50lb bag of starter that I got with my chicks 10 weeks ago. Would it be too early to switch them to layer feed? I can get feed from a local milling company but they only sell in 100lb bags. I don't want to get a bag of starter and have a bunch left over...
Is it OK to fill my chickens water bucket with my hose. I have well water that goes through a chlorine system. I just want to make sure that the chlorine in the water doesn't hurt them. I have been filling up jugs with filtered water but that takes a while
I am new to chickens. I have heard that if there is waddle development around 6 weeks and its red that it is a good indication that I will have a rooster. Is this true? I got these chicks from TSC and they said that they were all hens. I know shocker that they got it wrong. Just curious. Thanks...
OK here a little photo dump. This is a very old shed that I never used and i just kinda pieced it together. It's a 12x6 shed with a 8x6 coop with a storage area. 4" pvc feeder and a bucket waterer with nipples. Now that their home is done I sure I will be modifying and rebuilding things as I...
Thank you everyone that has taken the time respond to my many posts looking for advise on my coop build. It is finally done and I moved my chicks in today. I love this site and everyone on here. I couldn't have done it without all the help of the BYC family.
Working on the finishing touches before my girls move in and tomorrow's project will be putting in the feeder. I am going to do a 4" pvc feeder but wasn't sure if there are do's and don't. I was planning on attaching it on the right side infront of the nesting box. This way I could run a pipe...
When I first introduce my girls to their coop they will be 6 weeks old. Should I start out with the roosts down lower or should they be able to fly up to a 2' roost bar?
