I think I've been using a 16 Fr recently. The 18 seems so big, and that was the largest size I could find. I've checked a few of my other ducks' throats to compare what I see in hers to others, and her quack hole just seems to take up so much more space in her throat. Which I know sounds weird... -

That's a good point. I guess it's the winter temps issue combined with a hen brooding that is throwing me off. And dealing with chickens. I haven't had chicks in a good 4+ years. Since we weren't sure about the temperature, and didn't have any way to separate the hen and babies from other hens and roosters, they're inside currently. Membrane movement before internal pip - how long
I can't remember the exact day you're supposed to stop turning them, that "lockdown" phase of incubating but from what I remember it seems like once they start pushing on the internal membrane turning can probably be stopped. I think turning is mostly about making sure they don't get stuck on... -

I absolutely agree. It's a rotten position to be in. I do my best researching and learning how to treat what I can. It would be nice knowing there was a good waterfowl vet around though. The vet we went to is supposed to be an amazing bird vet. But I think there's just too big of a difference...- KCNC06

Wow! That's a really good price!! I don't know why the vet we went to called it surgery to inject the implant. It was just inserting the implant. The implant worked for 2 months before she started laying again. Her eggs had good shells for a little while but then got soft again before she stopped laying.
