Review by 'Ke11yMack' on item 'Ameraucana'

I found a beautiful Easter Egger and dove into the history of the Ameraucana after. It amazed me that they were so sought after that shops used phony names! What is the wonder of this breed? I saved my pennies and shipped a few purebreds across the country and I am smitten. Beautiful funny...

    Strange Comb/Wattle color

My black Ameraucana is molting and acting aggressive and hobit-ish. I'm wondering if it's a scuffle issue in the roost box at night...today the scab is off and it's bloody again. Hmmmm.

    Strange Comb/Wattle color

The girls are eating drinking and acting normal...we've had a couple of cold nights but they roost in their normal coop spots. I have three adult hens and the two Wyandottes are showing blackening of the comb and wattle, the Ameraucana is fine...one hen looks a bit better, but the other visually...

2nd Double Yolk in a week

I was just going to add...my hen laid two doubles...then laid a normal egg this morning, and while checking on them tonight, squatted (right in front of me) and laid a shell-less egg! My goodness! (she's the one in my avatar looking into the camera)

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

So why don't any of you break the cycle with some cool water? Does it not work or have you not tried it? Nice container of cold water...gently dip to the depth of a duck, angry hen in water (hold for as long as you can) and bring reproductive system down in temp. Gently dry hen off and release...

    Chicken with injured leg

I have a limpy hen too...I let her go her own speed with the flock and she is quite content staying under the trees when they wander. I flipped her over and checked everything...it seems like a sore knee. Poor things. She has no problem gimping over for a handful of mealworms tho!

Heart breaking day on the farm...

My neighbors roosters are free ranging...and if they cross the property line to my house it's upwards of 800.00 per animal per day. That's just trespassing! Here if an animal is destroying your livestock or pets you can defend it lethally. I hope the dog is removed from the poor owners.

    Country Chicken Life (our story)

My ladies are nearing egg laying time!! Okay well, that will be July but they are BIG. We've established a peaceful routine and when I come out to visit they are EXCITED to see me :) Last night while snacks were being pecked from hand I had a moment to think back to when they were so little. At...

Dumb dog won't stop eating chicken poop!

Sorry for bringing up this old thread but this habit has my dog obsessed. She goes in and out of the dog door 10 times starting at 4 am and is waking up the house. Not to mention the smell of chicken poop coming out of every pore. 🤢🤮 We are going to spend the holiday weekend moving the coop...
