Disclaimer: I'm well aware of the reputation of Rural King and Tractor Supply in chick breed knowledge. Can't say I'm any better 😂
We got Easter Eggers and "Ameraucanas" from RK. The red girls like our Fonzi (Fonzi-rella) were supposed to be the Ameraucanas and the darker (much larger) girls...
They didn't list the colors. I also didn't know they were so uncommon until after I got them home, but seeing as how it's apparently quite common to be duped I'm really not bothered. They didn't have what I actually went there for anyway lol.
I also can't get over the size difference. The 3...
Hey yall!
Need some help. This is our second batch of layers and all new breeds to me. They're supposed to be Easter Eggers, Ameraucanas and Buff Orpingtons. What I was told were EE are drastically larger than the others (same age), have blue legs and have the puffy cheeks. The "Ameraucanas"...
That was actually my first thought. I didn't see any though. The possibility of that scared me enough with our layers. Can't save them all though, but I'm still going to get the Nutridrench to keep in hand. Actually, if there's any other stuff like that you think we should have please let me...
We do have a thermometer probe inside. Unfortunately the chick died before I could even leave for the store. They are in a brooder box in the barn. The box is big enough that if they want to escape the heat there are other areas in the box to get away from it.

I am new to chickens (well, been a long time since I've had any). I have some questions...
1) is the little Red a bantam? She's the same age (no more than a couple days younger) but about half the size of the other 2 Reds.
2) what is this cockerel? He was supposed to be sapphire gem but I...
I guess I was hopeful considering my parents have never had that problem and they get several every year 😂 but I'm not surprised, just disappointed. Actually kind of excited about the cockerel. We also had no intention of getting any that day, but oh well.
Picked these babies up a few weeks ago (almost 5 weeks old). Supposed to be 3 Rhode Island Reds, 3 Black Australorps and 4 Sapphire Gems. It's been a long time since I've had chicks, but I don't remember Australorps having so much color. There's only one of them that actually looks how I would...
