Hey yall!

Need some help. This is our second batch of layers and all new breeds to me. They're supposed to be Easter Eggers, Ameraucanas and Buff Orpingtons. What I was told were EE are drastically larger than the others (same age), have blue legs and have the puffy cheeks. The "Ameraucanas" don't have the puffy cheeks or beards and have yellow/orange legs.

I will say I got 2 more EE from a different store and color wise they're similar to the larger chicks in the other batch. They're a week younger but not drastically larger than the Jersey Giant cockerel (not pictured) I got with them.

I'm not going to be upset if they sold us a wrong breed. I understand getting them from Rural King is one thing. The younger EE I got came from a local feed store which is run in part by a former Cuckoo Maran breeder, so I'd hope she knows her breeds, lol.

Let me know what you think!

Thank you!!

P.S. - other breeds I have include sapphire gem, GLW, RI Red, Barred Rock and Cuckoo Maran (male and female).

It would be very unusual to get a purebred Ameraucana out of a store bin, but not impossible. Many ignorant or deceptive sellers will list Easter eggers as Ameraucanas. Ameraucanas come in only relatively small number of accepted colors. Did they list a color for these birds?
At this age it would be a very difficult to tell them apart from Easter eggers. You might be able to tell more about them when they are older.

They didn't list the colors. I also didn't know they were so uncommon until after I got them home, but seeing as how it's apparently quite common to be duped I'm really not bothered. They didn't have what I actually went there for anyway lol.

I also can't get over the size difference. The 3 seem gigantic compared to the rest despite being the same age.

Ameraucanas never have yellow legs as they are a white skinned breed. Those chicks are maybe Easter eggers or maybe something else. Not sure.

The largest chicks with the beards are typical Easter eggers.

The small, paler chicks are probably buff Orpingtons. They should have white or pinkish white legs, with no yellow.

EE’s are my fav. I bought ‘Ameraucanas’ from TS - but one has green legs and one has slate. Not sure but probably not pure 😉 with that being said, they are EXCELLENT layers! their eggs, coupled with my GLW are the most consistent, and they’re easily my friendliest. Stinky to be lied to but i’m sure you’ll be happy with your birdies 💜
