Thank you! I figured it would be but thought I would double check. Are they like chickens and their eggs start out small and get bigger as they lay? It was quite a bit smaller than I expected but I think it came from one of our rouens so maybe their eggs are smaller? Its not any bigger than our...
So one of our ducks laid her first egg (that we know of anyway). I found it laying in the mud this morning when I went to let them out of their pen. It was covered in mud so I rinsed it off and stuck it in the fridge. Is it ok to eat even though it was covered in mud?
At what age do they get wattles? My Silkie is 8 weeks and no sign of wattles[/quote
My 2 silkie boys were starting to get waddles at about 10 to 11 weeks old
I have candled them just putting the light against the air cell end while leaving the egg in the nest. 3 look full with large air cells. The fourth looks like a dud. She has cracked 2 others that were both duds. She is in our basement away from everyone else. She kept getting kicked out by other...
Thanks. I was hoping she would hatch at least one but not too hopeful at this point. So what do I do if they don't hatch in a few days? Just toss them then put her back in the coop with the others? Or give her a few days with no eggs by herself and see if she snaps out of it?
I have a first time broody that has been sitting on eggs for 25 days now. 3 look full with big air cells. Fourth looks like a dud. Should i give up on them Or wait a few more days? Stick New eggs under her?
Thanks! Crossing my fingers for blues! My hubby picked them up at rural king. We have 2 whites ones that I'm pretty sure are roos I think about 14 weeks so we're hoping we have some girls here.
That happened with one of my rouens last week. I'm thinking he must have hurt it getting in or out of their pool. He wouldn't put any weight on one of his legs. I gave him half of a baby aspirin and he was fine the next day.
I figured so much. I have 2 same age both white. The other has the same tail but crest is a little smaller but they like to cheat bump a lot and even with the known cockeral bantam cochin that's also 10 weeks. I've just been holding out hope that at least one was a pullet.
When do cochin roos typically start crowing? Our marans roos started at about 5 weeks old. We have 6 nine week old cochins now and one definitely looks rooish compared to the others but no crowing yet.
I noticed a few days ago she was shaking just a little bit but didn't think much of it. It just looks like she's shivering but then once she tries to groom and almost falls over or loses her balance while she's walking you know something else is going on. This morning I noticed she was shaking...
Wow, I guess I need to proofread lol. I ran to our local tractor supply and picked up a bag of Purina chick starter. They didn't have much in the way of vitamins and no rooster booster so I'll have to make a run to rural king this weekend. Its really odd though that she is the biggest one of the...
