If you read my post back along about the fox attack You'll know that the two survivors (Gatsby and his wife) were in residence in my broody run.
As I had a broody hen on eggs (now chicks.. yay!) I needed them out.
There's also the issue that the hen hasn't laid since the attack, and I don't...
He is, thanks :)
Eating and drinking like a trooper and starting to flutter further every time he comes out to exercise.
The plan is to release him, but ****, I'm falling in love, he's ridiculously tame :/
But I'll do the good thing lol
Just thought I'd share pics of a fledgling my kids rescued yesterday.
He's been on the floor for a few days (eldest son saw him on Friday in the middle of the lane and put him on the verge), then the youngest two saw him yesterday having fallen in the burn!!
So they bought this soaking wet dove...
How terrible for you :(
They can come back from some horrific looking injuries so long as infection doesn't set in. My rooster, who was attacked by a fox, had several nasty bites and scrapes and felt sure he'd die, but he pulled through (physically, not mentally :/).
I'd make sure he was all...
Sadly had to euthanize the hen late last night.
She was in a lot of distress, and when its that obvious you know its something serious
Keeping an eye on the others (all good so far) but if anyone still has any theories about this, please post them x
I don't know, everyone else seems fine and up until today, she was too. I only wondered if it was a pinched/trapped nerve because I found her having laid an egg.
She's away from the others now anyway.
Hmm.. its a possibility I guess. Her mothers sitting atm and one of the others had to be wrangled off her egg this morning. First time I've seen that though!
Fingers x'd she'll be ok in a bit
Hey guys. I need to be on here more, I feel bad asking advice again without really joining in.
Anyway.
I found one of my Japanese bantam x hens (@12 months old) lying in the hen house this afternoon, off her legs.
No sign of injury, otherwise in top health and alert.
She had an egg under her, is...
lol, yeah it seems to work :P The fox had come back the day after to dig up his caches , but since I ordered outdoor peeing there's been no more physical signs. Also keeping away the badgers that like tipping over flower pots to look for worms!
No thanks.
It was my fault.
The other pens are secure and getting rid of this one only leaves a territory open for another to move in.
Besides, I get t he boys and hubby to pee around the pens regularly, seems to work ;)
