So this past Wednesday we moved Consuela and her cage back out to the coop. And since we are in Michigan and it's been awesome weather, it snowed and got cold.
BUT, we put her out there anyway with Maria. They were ok at first; we gave them each thawed corn and layer crumble, then went next door...
49 days later. She doesn't like to be fussed with, so it was hard getting a good picture. The part in red is that weird nub thing she started growing from the get-go.
I noticed the skin this weekend, and it was just at her tail, about half that size? Maybe Thursday was when I noticed.
Also, she's had full use of the cage since late last week because she had jumped out, and rather than deal with that, I chucked the box.
This pic was taken yesterday. Approx four weeks after her attack. She's still feisty, eating, talking and living in her box in the cage.
When she gets skin over her back, she'll get the full use of the cage, sans box.
No infection so far. I think we're out of the woods as far as that goes.
she is doing great. she still doesn't have the skin on her back grown back yet, but she eats and eats and poops and poops! she's in good spirits, chatty and feeling like she can jump out and walk around. i don't let her (poopfoot on carpet? no thanks) because i think she should spend her energy...
I took Consuela to the vet today to have her checked over. So far so good. He used the laser again on her, and said as long as she's peppy, eating, clean and active, she'd do great.
No infection at this point still, and there's significant reconstruction happening on day 12!
He doesn't think...
So I have an update thread in the stories of my chickens portion. Link here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/the-little-chicken-who-will.1213863/
She's doing fine still, and is eating and drinking. I give her layer crumble, frozen peas and corn and I've been trying eggs- I hardboiled...
Here are the photos of her injuries to date- it's only been a week:

Taken the next day (Dec. 24) to really see severity:

So Consuela has seen a vet this past Tuesday, and she is eating, drinking, and pooping just fine. Her back is looking so.much.better. although it's still pretty jacked up. I was looking at the initial pix v the ones from just today, and in a week, she appears to have made some progress. Still...
