It is possible that Emma may have just taken some water down the wrong way. If it is only a small amount she should be able to get it out again via the chicken equivalent of 'coughing' / sneezing. It is unlikely that she would have taken in much if she was drinking by herself, rather than being...
Hi sussuxpenthouse.
I am so sorry to hear about McGee!
I do think heat may have played a role in Ruby's deat; although it was below 30c here on that day, we were in the middle of a week of generally hot days.
Since Ruby passed on Saturday there have not been any more shell less eggs in the...
Thankyou everyone
The other girls all seem well this morning, happy and active, poops normal. I will continue watching them very closely, and I have dosed them all up with acv, greek yoghurt, garlic granules and colloidal silver. I have to admit to going out to check on them with a...
Thankyou nurse_turtle. I did consider it, but she is my daughters favourite chicken, and it didn't seem right somehow..... I also would not have known what I was looking for, having managed to dodge the disection part of biology. Asked my local vet, but they wanted way to much to do it
Hi
Very sad as our gorgeous Buff Sussex girl Ruby died today Ruby was around 6 months old and appered in perfect health before we found her dead in the nest box today.
Given that she is young, and appeared to be symptom free I am scared for the health of my other chickens! I have four...
Hi JakRat, I know EXACTLY what you mean about MEAN! I have one hen who is just plain nasty. We have tried everything with her, she has heaps of food, space, entertainment, and lots of grass to range on, but she will always seek out one of the other chickens and 'bully' it into moving or giving...
UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE!!!
RUBY is a GIRL - she has started squatting, and we have received 3 tiny brown eggs.
The jury is still out on GEORGIE.......
Thankyou for your replies!
I guess I will spend tomorrow scooping blue poops off the lawn.......makes a change from the half a dozen other colours I usually find
I arrived home today to find that despite a few hundred square metres of grass, a full feed container, and a plate full of kitchen scraps my silly girls had decided to eat FOAM off the legs of our trampoline. The foam is similar in texture to a 'pool noodle', and they have pecked off numerous...
If you can put her in another cage (with no nest box or soft bedding) for a few days that might help, although I have found that some girls have more will power than others.... I would NOT give her a cold bath if you are experiencing cold weather - just sounds cruel to me
Some hens refuse to...

LOL! well I guess time will tell, she is a little tricky.
I think Ruby is a roo also. The reason why there appears to be no saddle feathers is because they have obviously been plucked out.
That's true, she has fallen victim to the Australorp that hates her and has been feather...
