Hi Abbey,
Unfortunately my story doesn't have a happy ending, but I hope yours will! My ducklings foot never uncurled despite multiple splints that I made and massaging. He got fairly big and was so sweet and happy but because he couldn't move around much he was getting very overweight and it...
I'll do it... I just don't know how to make his life easier. I feel so bad for him. He's perky and healthy but definitely disabled. I live in Canada so it might be harder to rehome him.
Sorry, the duckling is still healthy but the leg situation hasn't really improved. The foot straightened out a bit with the splint but its still curled under on one side and the one leg likes to slip backwards making it hard for the duckling to get up. He kinda just squirms Around to get to...
Hi. I just hatched out 11 ducklings in the incubator. I think the humidity went too low for the last three, as I actually had to help them hatch out of their shells. Not a decision I made lightly, I don't think they would have made it if I hadn't helped. Two of the ducklings were fine but...
Thanks for the reply.
Yes he is cheeping when flipped over. He doesn't seem to like it much haha. He isn't flipping over as much now that he's been out of the incubator awhile. He's still pretty unstable but not as bad. I've hatched ducks a few times and they have always been a bit wobbly...
Hi,
I hatched a chick at 3 am last night. It is now 6 the next day and I came home to find it stuck on its back. It kept doing that this morning too. Is it normal for them to take this long to figure out how to walk without falling over? He also cheeps a whole lot and has a clicky sound...
We found out it was because their dad kept jumping the barrier between them and harassing them. Biting their feathers on their heads and stuff. What a jerk. They are separated better now. Poor babies.
Well he seems to be doing well! I did opt to give him a little bit of the antibiotics. He is limping a lot less. However, he and his brother have been hanging out inside their house since yesterday which I find odd because they haven't really wanted to be in there since they got a bit older...
I had a really hard time finding any topical antibiotics. I even went to a couple vet offices. I ended up getting some powder tetracycline hcl. Do you think this will help? And if I give it to the one duckling in his water will it be ok for the other one to drink the same water?
Can I buy these antibiotics from a feed store or do I have to go to a vet? Thank you for your reply! I will look into hardware cloth. We had them in a pen with chicken wire and never had any problems. But we just moved them to a new pen with no climb fencing but the gaps are a bit bigger. I...
