    Is This The End?

She is resting comfortably in our home on soft bedding with a heat lamp on her in a quiet, peaceful place where I can check on her regularly. She still responds to me coming in and stroking her head as she has in the past. She has been a pet and faithful companion in the garden for 5 years. I...

    Is This The End?

I have had a small flock of 7 hens since April 2020. I am down to 3. All but one have died of unknown natural causes. All died suddenly, without much warning, except for the one who met its end with a fox. A necropsy on one hen showed death from renal failure, as she only had 1 kidney. They...

    Deformed Egg

One of my 3 year old hens laid this tiny egg today. Any thoughts why? Left egg is normal.

    Kicking Myself

Yes. My hens are molting big time at present. That makes the birds wonky and they stop laying. Plus, decrease daylight. Give it time and they'll settle back into a routine.

    Kicking Myself

So sorry for your loss. Yes, predators are smarter than they look. I have a fox living on my property just itching to get a chicken dinner. I had one hen taken, dropped and survived for a year after her attack, only to die recently from other causes. It took my flock quite a while, a month...

    High-pitched wheeze

I just lost one of my favorite hens today with the same symptoms. My vet was useless except for taking my money. I took her to our local ag poultry pathology lab and they did a thorough necropsy exam soon after her passing, because I lost another lovely hen 2 weeks ago. I was concerned about...

    Please HELP- Wheezing Chicken

How's your hen doing? I just had a necropsy on a hen that expired today. Fortunately, Avian Influenza test was negative, however from what you are describing I would be concerned for that. If she expires, I would call your stat agriculture and poultry department. Avian flu is very bad this...

    Poop Help For Diagnosis

Blondie expired today. She kept drinking and this morning, crop was really full. I had a vet appointment at 10 am. As I picked her up to take her, she looked at me, vomited and seized and was gone. I took her remains to the University of Penn Vet Poultry Division who did a necropsy for the...

Dog attack, crop impaction, and respiratory issues

I had a hen who survived a fox attack last year. It was a very long road to recovery, but she recovered. I would say 5 weeks until she was strong enough to reintroduce to her flock, with much difficulty. She had a broken clavicle bone, several puncture wounds and of course shock. I kept her...

    Crop/Gizzard or Both Issue-Help!

Fecal test came back negative today. She is doing well. She passed a stool 2 days ago that included stones, so gizzard is working. Appetite is not great, but then again its been stressful. I never treated for sour crop other than giving a little yogurt and 1 tsp of applecider vinegar in 16 oz of...

Hello :) need advice on this “tissue”?? That came out with my ducks poo..

I'd take her to the vet too. At least she could start with a fecal float test. Coccidiosis is prevalent right now due to the warm wet fall weather in many parts. There's a lot of advice out there, not all of it safe in my opinion.
