    Grit is small rocks used for digestion. Oyster shell is crushed oyster shells used for added calcium.

    My hens are caged in their run. We don't let them free range because we have 25 of them plus we have a lot of chicken hawks around. I do want them to have access to the grass so I thought maybe I could throw in a bunch of grass clippings after hubby has mown the lawn. Is this ok?

    There were 2 hens pecking at it in the corner. The coop is about 31 right so it's possible it froze. But 2 hours earlier there was nothing in that corner. So who knows.

    My darling hubby STEPPED ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He walked into the coop last night and CRUNCH! She layed it right in front of the door. UGH! My hens are only 18 weeks! I always thought they layed at 24 weeks. I'll have to keep going in to check for more eggs. Do they eventually learn...

    We keep a heat lamp just above the waterer. It was 2.5 outside this morning, 27 in the coop and the water was fine.

    When you say calcium, do you mean oyster shells? If so, my chickens are only 15 weeks old. Wouldn't they be too young for that?

    Dec electric bill

    We have an electric water heater and a pellet stove that suck all our power. Our bill runs about $215.00 per month. It's about $180.00 in the summer.
