Thanks for the feedback. The main issue is the crowing. these are suburban chickens so they can't be making a huge racket. I can keep them around so long as they don't start crowing. I'll rehome the two noisemakers right away and hopefully the others will keep a lid on it for a couple months...
Sorry to hijack my own thread but I have another question. I'm going to have to rehome all but one of my birds. Is this one going to go insane being by itself for a couple months while new chicks are growing in a brooder?
I appreciate the responses already. My assessment is that #6 is probably the only pullet. bad luck on my part selecting them.
When i picked them out only two had white spots on the head. They grew out to be the barred rocks. The other 4 had black heads.
I'm a new chicken wrangler. About 14 weeks ago I bought the birds from a local farmer. He had a clutch of about 20 chicks I randomly grabbed 6. His advert claimed the birds were sexed and would likely be hens. It also said the father was a black copper maran and the mothers were barred rocks...
