    Large hen or a rooster?

I can’t figure out how to ask a new question on my own link so I’m gonna try to post it here and see if I get any responses. I have a chick that’s about 2 months old. It’s larger than all the rest and I think it’s tail feather are suspiciously rooster like. It was sold as a pullet at tractor...

How early can i integrate my chicks with the big flock?

I hatched 6 chicks out on Memorial Day. I put them outside in a smaller coop attached to the run and bigger coop with a brooder heater in the nesting area at 1 week. It was really warm here in the 90s day 70s night. The big girls and boy could see them all day. Monday I let them all out together...

    Is this a rooster???

My RIR roo is pretty aggressive. I don’t go to the coop without a stick. Going to cull him as soon as I get a new rooster big enough to protect the flock.

Baby chicks raised with flock or seperate

I had to leave everyone in the run on Saturday because of a wedding and they seemed to live together pretty good. No blood or injuries when I got home. I’m glad I left them them all together rather than having to integrate them now. It’s really been easy.

What age to let chicks free range?

I have a broody with 3 week old chicks in the big coop already. Do you think they will accept 6 week old chicks too if I open the he door between the brooder and the run? They’ve been able to see each other for about 3 weeks now They free range all day, the big ones and the broody, but I...

Ok I’m gonna go out and get her but I’ll have to wait til my husband gets home to help me fix it. I don’t think I can do it by myself.

I put fake eggs in the spot I wanted them to start laying in and they did. I also let mine free range all day. They all return to the coop to lay.

    Broken beak on hen

I went out to open the coop door and let the chickens out to free range and I had two hens in the same nesting box. I took a pic just because it was so funny.... I have three other boxes but all eight girls lay in the same one. Upon looking at the pic closely in the house I noticed my buff...

Baby chicks raised with flock or seperate

Week 3 and mama and baby chicks are stilll fine in with the flock. They free range kinda by themselves but Big Red the rooster will come running to protect them if mama calls him. If I put out treats they all eat together. No more than the usual pecking on each other.

Baby chicks raised with flock or seperate

Week 2 and mom and chicks are both doing fine raised in the coop with my other girls and rooster. No one seems to be bothering them at all. Mom had them out free ranging today and it is so cute to watch them mimic her and come to her call.

Baby chicks raised with flock or seperate

Day three with the flock and mama and chicks are going great. Out of 12 eggs 6 hatched into chicks. Mama and babies are scratching around the coop and run, but haven’t ventured out yet.

Baby chicks raised with flock or seperate

I’m leaving mine in the big coop with my other 7 hens and a rooster. This is my first broody so I’m gonna see how it goes. Today was day two and no problems so far. The other chickens are leaving her and the chicks alone. They do free range all day so I’m sure that helps They’re not penned...

    Dog and Eggs

I locked them in the coop and run for about three days when they first started laying. I put fake eggs in the nesting boxes. Now they go to the coop lay an egg then holler for the rest of the flock. The rooster usually answers and let’s her know where they are and off she goes. It’s really neat...
