    Driving with incubated eggs

Thanks for your input. I figured that I’d take the eggs out of the incubator and wrap them. I guess it’s not a good idea because my drive is about 90 minutes.

    Driving with incubated eggs

I am planning to incubate eggs in my classroom which I’ve done for at least five years. I’m currently on spring break and would like to get the eggs started and then bring them to school next Monday. Is this possible?

    Bathing an injured hen

Good morning! One of my hens wont leave the nest box since yesterday and it doesn't seem like she is broody. It looks like maybe a hawk attacked her and maybe she was able to escape to the coop. It looks like maybe dried blood and as though it strted to eat her. What should I do? I figure I...

    Sunflower Seeds

Hi! It seems that my hens have started laying more eggs since I have been giving them sunflower seeds in addition to their layer feed. Does that sound right or is it just coincidental?

    Processing

Help! I'm looking for someone to process 37 meat birds by Sunday, July 19. We didn't work out our timing correctly and scheduled a vacation. We are in Dutchess County NY and I already know of Old Hibernia Farm and they didn't have room. I'm willing to travel up to 2 hours.

    NYC chickens need a home

I have 6 six-month old Dominique hens, 3 three-and-a-half-year old Easter Eggers, 1 three-year old White Leghorn, and 1 three-year old Black Australorp. If you would like to have already grown hens here in NYC or nearby I will give them to you. The Dominique's are just starting to lay. They...

Should chick with sprattle leg be separated?

I found one of my 3 week old Dominique chicks with her legs out underneath her. I researched here on the website and found out what to do. Her legs are bandaged together but she still can't stand and the others are walking over her. Should I separate her?

One yolk was a little hard?

I was making scrambled eggs for supper tonight and one of the yolks was quite firm. I've never seen that before in any egg that I have encountered. Anyone know what this is? I only have hens.

    Chicken waterer nipple ?

Quote: Can't they be taught? I know when I introduce a new waterer to them, I just tap it so that water comes out and they eventually get the hang of it. The nipples are usually red and a curious chicken seems to want to investigate. By The Way - I have 3 nipples in a 5 gallon pail with an...

Is this a roo and what breed?

Thank you all! I'm so happy and relieved. If she was a rooster, I would have to get rid of her because we can't have roosters here in New York City. My students will be relieved also.

How do you prevent water from freezing

I use a 5 gallon pail hanging with nipple feeders coming out of the bottom. We put a fish tank water heater in the pail. It lays on the bottom of the pail and has kept the water from freezing for these past few weeks and the weather has been pretty regularly in the 20's.
