Baby bantam and her Mom--trouble with existing group

Thanks so much for the reply. We thought we had a secure spot made for them, never thought she would go through the holes in the fence. Have since created a wooden enclosure for them until the baby gets older (and bigger).

Baby bantam and her Mom--trouble with existing group

One of our silkies just hatched her first baby (we have two silkie hens, two silkie roo's, three Rhode Island reds and three white leghorns). The baby is now two weeks old. We had them Mom (who is very attentive to the baby) and the baby segregated in the coop using chicken wire/fencing...

Newborn chick and her Mom question

Our silkie bantam hatched her first baby the night before last. Whenever we check, the baby (along with a few more eggs she is sitting on) is tucked cozily under her. She doesn't seem to ever let the baby out from under her. How do we ensure the baby is getting let out from under her to eat...

    Egg bound?

We have an approx. 7 month old silkie bantam hen whom I am very worried about. She won't leave the nesting box and has been in it all day. Winter preparation---mixture of breeds, how to have a safe winter

We live in New Hampshire (think cold and lots of snow). This is our first winter with our birds. We have 3 Rhode Island Reds, 3 white leghorns, and 4 silkie bantams. My understanding is the RIR and leghorns are quite winter hardy (ability to fluff their feathers and stay warm) but an...

    Ideas for activities for run

Our chickies have a nice 10x12 fully fenced run. The run has a nice big perch which they enjoy. What else can I put in there to help give them things to do (beyond look for bugs) and keep them happy?

    Someone has diarrhea

So, at least one of our white leghorns ( probably 2.5 months old) has diarrhea (saw it). Not liquid but soft pudding consistency. Anything I can do? They do get greats and grit on top of their regular feed.

Run area: dirt, hay or grass?

Our chickies have a mixed fenced run area off their coop. The fenced area is dirt (they do like taking dirt baths). Would it be best to a) leave it as is b) put some hay down c) put sod/grass down? What is best for them?

    We have some bullying problems

So, our original group of chicks was three white leghorns and three rhode island reds that we got late April. May 17 we got Six bantam's (four silkies and two speckled Sussex). They all lived together in the garage fine and then about 1 1/2 weeks ago, the big ones were moved into their coop...
