Going rate for barnyard mix chicks?

My locale recently reduced the acreage required for chickens, so I have been getting inquiries from people looking for chicks. I gave some away to a friend who had been buying eggs from me for years. Someone else bought some extra 3-week-old barnyard mixes for $5 a chick a few weeks ago, and we...

I wasn't going to hatch fall eggs....

I know I not the only one to love a good fuzzy chickie: I love this one's super fluffy face. I hope the mottling carries on to adulthood. This one has pants to go with its muffs and beard.

I wasn't going to hatch fall eggs....

Final count - 10 checks hatched after 3 early quitter/non-fertile, 1 day 7 quitter, and 1 malpositioned day 20. Sadly no crested babies. Not surprising, though. The other two don't let him near the younger hens. 1 light colored 4 toed from tan egg 3 light colored 5 toed from green eggs 6...

I wasn't going to hatch fall eggs....

Actually, it may be from one of my older brahmas... but I didn't think they were still laying or maybe a buff orpington. It was from a medium tinted egg. I think all of my mixes lay brown, olive, or green eggs.

I wasn't going to hatch fall eggs....

Three have hatched so far! Another olive egger identical to the black one in the photo hatched since this one was taken. I didn't realize how staggered this clutch would end up being - I was expecting Wednesday/Thursday... not Tuesday morning! I think based on genetics that the daddy of all of...

I wasn't going to hatch fall eggs....

Here's the Brahmacauna roo. It's really just a Brahma x Easter Egger, cross. This was him last year, he's not as pretty right now due to a beard picker in the flock.

I wasn't going to hatch fall eggs....

...but we all know how that goes. I kept forgetting to get the eggs out from under my last persistent broody, then I realized a lot of my green egg laying hens are getting old, so decided to throw some green eggs in along with some more "rarer" colored eggs for my basket. For good measure (or...

    Help Me!!

Thank you for the reply. I sat with them for 2+ hours today, turned over some portions of the run, drained the duck pond, and just watched them. A few had some feather lice, so I went ahead and sprayed them for that. Everyone else was acting normal. None were standing off by themselves, none...

    Help Me!!

I had a less than 1 year old pullet pass away ago 4 days ago. She was on a nest, so I assumed it was a laying issue. This morning I found a 6-7 year old dead hen in the coop on the floor. She was of normal weight, and had no visible external parasites. I have 39 total chickens now and 13 ducks...

What color is "straw" in SOP??

Thanks. I wasn't counting the ridges as points. So if I was only looking at just the combs, I would pick the one with the finest texture and smallest thumbprint and pick hens with the proper number of points to get to a better rooster. Obviously I know it goes way beyond the comb, but the two I...

What color is "straw" in SOP??

How many points does this guy have? I think though his tail might be too upright.

What color is "straw" in SOP??

He is straw colored? Also, is this 5 points or 6? And is this a thumbprint comb? Don't mind his missing beard. One of his girlfriends is a feather plucker I need to remove. Also are the brown margins on his black tail a major fault if they are supposed to be solid black?

    Slipped wing/split wing? Twisted wing?

This guy is 8-9 months old. He's always had some wing/feathering issues. At this point, does this look like a permanent defect?

What color is "straw" in SOP??

I finally got my APA SOP (YAY!). I am trying to pick which of my 3 salmon faverolles roosters to put in my breeding pen. What color is "straw"? It's not defined in the definitions section and the colored pictures in the book show it as almost white.

    Roosters are driving me crazy

Oh I know. I have already done 8ish. Left are two bantams (not problems) 3 salmon faverolles that I am trying to figure out which one to keep, an easter egger that is not a problem that I am keeping. Then there is "Whitey" who is a royal pain but I am waiting to do him with the two reject...
