I lost my step-dad tonight. He was more of a Dad to me than a 'step'. My pain is horrible. The worst pain is/was having to tell my daughter. She is devastated 💔
Any good thoughts we'll take.
Hi there,
Life has been cold & chaotic here 😵💫
I haven't had a much time to spend with the chickies as I'd like. Is this bad for them? It's been a few days - they have food & water & I've talked to them. I feel awful, but with the shorter days & all the other stuff happening....😫 I don't...
Thank you for all the information! 🥰👍
We are going to use lots of straw for insulation and they have a perch.
Our special chicken, Millie, who we think has Marek's, is our biggest concern. She is stuck on the floor of the shoop and alone. We take her out of her space at least every other day to...
The fan is at the very top of the shoop - at the peak. We will have a tarp covering the door to ensure no draft coming up from the bottom. When inside the shoop, they are very protected from any wind.
Our winters are extremely dry here - it's the extreme cold (days of negative temps) that...
I have no idea what a pop door is and i don't think we have one.
The gauge we have shows temp & humidity, supposedly. Can humidity get too low?
I'm sure I'll be tasked with making a path for them out the door and into the run.
The light they will get is from the opening of the west door, enough...
Without wind chill, it can get as low as -15. Couldn't tell you the humidity level - but we do want them to be comfortable not just surviving. Do they just go dormant?
We want to let them out in the winter. Is that not a good idea either?
still confused!
Pop doors, wind breaks, humidity controls, horse sawdust, poop insulation?? I'm so confused about keeping my chickies comfortable over the winter!!
Our shoop is tight. We have a 4x4" solar powered fan (battery backup) and 2 large doors. The doors fit securely to the shoop, but there are...
Nothing new. She's still in her "condo" and comes out when she feels like it - and one of us can keep watch so other hens don't attack her. I'm still waiting for the herbal remedy to see if it helps.
Sorry I've been radio silent. Step-dad spent 10 days in goals. He's lost 40% sight in left eye, must walk with cane:hmmso no more driving - although he takes the lawn tractor around to scout out the scrub grass.😁
I won't go into all the happenings in my life, but I've been really down and have...
