I haven't been able to actually see anything on feather shafts or vent area but I know they can be very small. The signs definitely seem to be there.
I'm going to use the spray on the coop and dust the hens given the very cold temps in my area. Thanks!
I have noticed a couple of hens missing feathers from vent area and others having broken looking feathers. No rooster.
I assumed they were pecking each other out of boredom but now I think they have mites. Never had to deal with this before.
I checked them all over and can't see anything...
Just wondering if this looks normal or potentially scaley leg mites? Chicken is about 7m old dark brahma hen. All the others look fine. I only have 3 chickens with feathered feet so I wasn't sure if this was normal or cause for concern. Thank you!
It has been starting to get cold, but today is actually in the 50s. I took a paper towel dipped in warm water and tried to work out what i could without totally pissing her off. No signs of mites or anything. It was the fluff pretty far below the vent that was gross
I have a hen (Silver laced Wyandotte) that is just over 5 months old and started laying at the end of September. Today I noticed she has poop stuck to her fluff feathers. It's not super runny and when i went to try to clean it off, it looked like the vent itself was clear.
As far as I can...
Southern Maine here - also in the cold a** winter club.
First winter with chickens. I have a small coop that was a pre-fab purchase from TSC. It is located inside a good size covered poultry pen. We have 5 hens and a rooster (Silver laced wyandottes, a buff orpington, and araucanas).
I have...
We recently got a puppy (following a fox attack when our chickens were free ranging) and when i saw how much he liked eating chicken poop that helped to convince me that my decision to keep the chickens in the pen was a better plan.
Day 2 of treatment and overall i suppose there are more normal poops but still saw quite a few of the light tan "butterscotch" colored runny poops as well. Also got a particularly disgusting one all over my hoodie after my lovely Poppy jumped up on me :sick
Thanks for the reassurance. We are still very new to this and it's hard to know what is normal vs problematic!
I have the chicken health handbook and although it's helpful for a lot of things I think it's making me overly paranoid. The only thing it said about foamy poop seemed to be...
I posted in a new thread but here are some pics . That last one is the runniest I have seen. Recently added a b supplement to the water just before the increase in weird poo. Went back to normal water for now
None of the chickens are acting sick but I keep seeing diarrhea or maybe it's normal cecal poop when scooping the run. The droppings in coop from overnight are usually normal.
I have treated for coccidiosis in the past but I am worried this could be nodular tapeworm?
Poo pics and bonus pic...
Is it common for cecal poop to be almost frothy and light tan colored? I am trying to figure out if its cecal poop or nodular tapeworms....but in the morning the poops in the coop are all normal looking.
