No problem.. thanks for commenting :) ... about a week ago I messaged a guy off you tube to ask about it, and he also suggested that maybe my seed depth was not enough to get a good root mat... so I increased the seed in the pans.. I am almost to day 7/8 on that pan, so I am just waiting to see...
Does Anyone else grow barley fodder for their chickens?? I am trying to troubleshoot some problems I am having and can't seem to find good info.
So my set up is a wire shelves from lowes.. we have 10 kitty litter pans that we drilled lots of holes in the bottom to make a shower watering...
I'll try the fake eggs... I thought about locking them all in the coop for a few days, but honestly its so hot here and the coop is hot during the day, so I don't want to do that.... I might try waiting to feed them until dusk and then try the meal worms...
So I have a bit of a problem.... well last week we combined my older flock of hens which are 3 years old, with my young flock which are 5 months old.... there has been no fighting..... but my big issue is that we put them all together in a new bigger coop with a huge chicken yard on it.... the...
I am trying my first round with fermented feed. My question is about amount of feed.. I have a flock of 15 that currently eat 3 to 4 pounds of feed per day, depending on how much they forage. SOOoooooo... when I ferment the feed, will they still eat 3 to 4 pounds of fermented feed, even...
I don't feed a lot of scraps, the last time I feed scraps it seemed to give them the runs.. which is where I think all this got started... I do feed the 20% because they do free range quite a bit, and on the lower protien they just didn't lay very good.
I will check into our department of...
Can I give them baths or do something to get it off of them?? I don't want their butts to stay that way.. I will see if I can find someone to test the poopy.. we don't have a livestock vet in my area...that I know of anyway...
Ok I am sure there are a hundred threads on this.. My hens are about 3 years old.. I have 14 of them, about half of them have poopy butt, pretty bad.. now that being said, it has rained here every day, and the run is a little muddy... I have looked for signs in the poop, all poops look normal...
I would certainly wait.. It does have a ring.. but it also clearly has an embryo.. make me think it is growing.. by day 7 you should see the embryo moving and "swimming" around.. When ever I have had a ring of death... there was never the vessel development nor the embryo that big.. but that's...
Just a little update... here is what hatched... cinnamon queen mom, and cinnamon queen dad... they look like they will take after the white rhode island genetics.
all worked out ok.. the teacher is going to put them under heat light and feed/water till friday, so that all the kids can watch them for a couple of days. We ended up with 5 that hatched out of 12... so a little bummed about that .. I really thought that I had better fertility rate then...
