Hello East TN,
I have noticed that several of you are my neighbor. I live in Maynardville (just north of Knoxille) and work in Knoxville. My son and I are newbie chicken keepers. We have 5 RIRs and 6 unidentifieds from TSC. We have 25 chicks coming soon as a 4-H project so I'm trying not to...
He's difinitly a roo! I'm so happy, I'd hoped to only have 1 roo out of the 5. Thanks for the help guys, I'll be needing more soon as I (my son really) have 25 coming next month for 4-H. Thanks Again,
Chad
Thanks for the advice guys. His feathering is slower. His feathers are small and short, the rest have wide, long feathers. I'll have to check his comb tonight, not sure about that. I'll try to post some pics of them tomorrow.
Hey Guys, Love reading your posts, great community of animal addicts! I was needing some help telling the sex of my RIRs. They are still pretty young, about 3-4 weeks. I was wanting to know what sex they were. I have 5 and 4 of them seem identical. The 5th one is different in alot of ways...
I'm so excited. I got a call last night that my son gets to join the 4-H chicken project. 25 fuzzy butts on their way next month. I did this project when I was his age and am looking more forward to it now than he is. My wife is about to stoke out. I guess I shouldn't have told her they...
The bator bugs already got me. I've got one borrowed that will hold 48 eggs. I'm going to pick up the eggs this weekend. I'd say divorce papers should arrive by the first of next week! lol
And let me say, I got bit by the bug last Spring, and bit HARD. I am now sitting at 34 chickens, 6 ducks (4 were ducklings I just got yesterday) and 82 eggs in the incubators. I have more eggs coming, and more after that, and then more...plus I'm hatching my own eggs out. Now, in my defense I...
I knew it would happen. I just found a really nice lady near me selling hatching eggs on Craigslist for a great price. I will be picking up a dozen RIR and a dozen Doms. More fuzzy butts! I'm so excited. If anyone in or around East TN is looking, she seems like a pleasure to do business with.
Well I made it through the day without purchasing any more chicks. Today will probably be a different story. I have plans to finish my "coop" this weekend. I think coop is an understatement. We'll call it a chicken house. Up until a few days ago, it was a well house. There is lots of room...
Thats good advice 4 LOVE. I was thinking about stopping at TSC on the way home to see if theirs came in yet but I'm sure it would result in a purchase. Guess I should drive on by tonight and save my marrige for another day.
Hey Guys, I've heard of the swine flu but never the chicken bug. Well, I've caught it! I've been reading the boards for a couple of weeks now and yesterday, I took the plunge and went and bought 5 Rhode Island Red chicks. I am in love with them. I never knew a baby chick could be so...
