14 week old black barnyard mix, possible cockerel?

Just to follow up, this bird's strange tail feathers have molted out and she's all pullet. Thanks for your help!

14 week old black barnyard mix, possible cockerel?

Single. Here she is as a wee 5 week old. (Just realized I don't take nearly enough pics of my chickens!)

14 week old black barnyard mix, possible cockerel?

Funny, all replies I received in a local chicken group on Facebook think it’s a cockerel. I don’t agree but I’m amused by the difference!

Thank you that is very good to hear!

14 week old black barnyard mix, possible cockerel?

Thank you! Yes, the tail feathers were the only thing making me question her. Thanks for weighing in!

14 week old black barnyard mix, possible cockerel?

I wasn't concerned at all until these longer curved tail feathers appeared a couple of days ago. Small comb, no roo behaviours (possibly my shyest bird) or suspicious noises at all, hatched out of an olive egg but I'm not sure about breed mixture exactly. I'd love to hear informed opinions! Can...

How long do you wait before you give up on a hen?

So, hens can read minds apparently?! Got my first pale green egg today. They could tell I was considering making stew, I suppose. Now I'll have to figure out which it was and keep an eye out for the other.

How long do you wait before you give up on a hen?

Yeah, there's definitely no hiding spots or evidence of egg-eating. There are other hens laying in there, and the others have no signs of stress or trauma. I thought flightiness was normal for Ameracaunas, so if that sounds unusual to you maybe they just have bad genes.

How long do you wait before you give up on a hen?

I have 2 silver Ameracaunas that are over a year old and HAVE NEVER LAID. I knew that Ameracaunas are sometimes late bloomers, but this is getting ridiculous. They started to look ready just before everyone took their winter vacation, they had a minor lice infestation which I have taken care of...

    Carbaryl dusting powder for lice

Hi, I know there are lots of threads mentioning this, but I haven't found the information I am looking for. Basically, my birds have lice and possibly mites as well. Carbaryl 5% powder (aka Sevin) is all that is available in my area. What I would like to know - before I splash this stuff all...

egg eater. but not her own

It's possible that she only eats eggs that are already broken. I don't think they care who laid them.

Yolk growing OUTSIDE of the egg

You must find a way to post a pic! That sounds fascinating. How long has the hen been laying? When they're just starting up, it can take a little while for their systems to get it right.

    First egg after winter break!

It's almost as exciting as the first egg ever! My four 1-year-old hens have been "off-duty" since the end of November, and have just begun again! I noticed they began digging in the nest box again yesterday after ignoring it completely all winter. I was actually surprised to see it begin again...
