I don't have a chicken, but a quail I believe may be egg bound. I can't feel an egg by examining her outside, but she is acting like she is needing to push an egg out, but only pooping.
I should say that she went broody, stopped laying and eating calcium. Her chicks are all grown up now and I...
My girl acted like that when she was young, so perhaps. I have no idea what triggered it, one day she just decided to sit and not get up even though birds were bugging her and stepping all over.
I found the male will protect the eggs but he won't do anything else. My female stared at eggs and was obsessed for months. Then one day she decided to sit and not get up. She's 9months old now. I think the winner was peace and quiet. I have them in a bedroom and dog crates and bushes everywhere.
Thank you! I actually did end up moving her out of the room. Everytime the male went by the cage she looked very agitated. Since, I've put her in my bedroom closet, which she is hunkered down.
Hi all,
So I'm pretty excited as my jumbo quail (and favourite) went broody yesterday and has been promptly sitting her her clutch for 24 hours, not moving and making some nasty noises at any quail (other than her sister) that came by.
Now my question, as I've never dealt with a broody...
I'm a vegan, so I am highly against cruelty but I know my dogs need meat to survive and I'd rather raise the birds humanely in a wonderful acreage with a wonderful life and slaughter the mean ones, but my concern is the bird suffering....
I can kill a fish, regularly do so for meat for the...
Hey all,
I'm moving up to Prince George in the end of October and trying to figure out where my closest bet for chickens (cold hardy breeds).
Anyone know of anyone? I'm looking for sexed chicks or young birds 6-10.
The two birds that pecked her leg off will be rehomed to a hobby farm.
There was blood all over the ones face and I can't get it out of my head, I just keep seeing a barbaric killer being a cannibal.
She went to the vet this morning, she was septic. But luckily my vet is awesome and gave her some morphine to calm her before euthanizing.
Thanks for all the input though, I do appreciate the time. It will be live and learn through the coming times.
Well, she started going downhill at around 5-6pm, wouldn't eat as much, stopped drinking, wanted to sleep more, and her breathing started to become deep. I decided at 2am to euthanize her with the co2 method.
THAT BACKFIRED AND WAS HORRIBLE.
She panicked and was gasping and struggling while...
But, what if there isn't any infection. It's not guaranteed that infection will set in.
However, you do have a point, if it does happen and her welfare goes down then I will, but it's impossible to now when she is eating, drinking, chasing worms and crickets, going back to a warm spot and...
Good news so far is her appetite is increasing immensely, activity is as well. She had a few minutes burst of hopping around this morning when changing her dressing,( chasing a worm).
The wound is scabbing over lightly, the bone is still stuck out a bit, but I'm hoping it all scabs over it...
Thank you, would I be able to find those antiseptic sprays at a tack store?
The aspirin seems to help her breath slower which I'm assuming means less pain. I'll take a picture next time I change the dressing. The bone is sticking out a bit.
