    Lame hen, discharge from beak

I didn't get the opportunity to call the vet today but I will as soon as I can tomorrow. I'm afraid I might have to put her down I really hope not. She's my best hen. Her eyes are now swollen shut. I've been treating her for a respiratory infection. I'm hoping the vet will just give me a...

    Lame hen, discharge from beak

I believe my hen has a respiratory infection. We are calling the vet tomorrow. I bought some VetX to treat her with tonight.

I just found her like that today but i wasn't around all day yesterday to check and see if she had it then. I really hope they both get better too!

    Lame hen, discharge from beak

She is very pale and her eyes are watery. Her beak is full of a sticky saliva-like liquid. Shes still eating but acts like shes in a daze and closes her eyes often. Her vent was pulsing a lot but from what i see it has stopped.

Im afraid my hen is experiencing the same symptoms. Are her eyes swollen and watery and is her vent pulsing? If you find anything out please inform me!

    Dirty Chickens

I bought two new hens and they stink! Is there any way I can bathe them? Something that doesn't require a whole lot of hard to get or expensive supplies. I wondered if using a wet rag and wiping them down? I need options please

New hens added to the flock.

I'm not sure how old the two new hens are but the other chickens are about four months old. The coop is extremely large because we built it but the run is a 10x10 dog kennel.

What is the correct ratio of roosters to hens?

I have heard that one rooster can handle up to 15 hens. I wouldn't rely on one rooster doing that much but that is the limit I have been told.

New hens added to the flock.

@AmishThunder I have tried penning them up separately but it was such a hastle that I quit. I'll start doing that again. Thank you very much.

New hens added to the flock.

@Spottie. I have trouble free ranging because where I live there is a chicken hawk that likes to fly around. I did have two roosters but it killed one already. If I let them out I have to stay with them. I have let them out for an hour or so together. They allow the two new hens to sleep with...

New hens added to the flock.

I've searched this whole website and can't find what I'm looking for. I got my own account just to answer my questions. I'm a first time chicken owner. I bought 4 hens and a rooster from tractor supply. They have grown up and get along great with one another. The hens are still so young that...
