    I threw a golfball in the nesting box all my girls use, it's cut down on egg cracking immensley (from one a day, to one every 3-4 days).

    I'm in BC Canada, opposite side of the contenent LOL. This years bear is a momma - close to 500lbs, with cub. we steer CLEAR as much as possible, but aleast 1 run in a fall is normal. Already had 1 a month ago while on the trail, she seems to have moved on already, less scat, no torn up logs...

    I googled that stuff, wow, it looks potent. We have bees though, and lots of ladybugs, which so many reports mentions it also kills. Does it kill bugs OUTSIDE of where it's put?? Or am I safe to put it in the coop and have the Garden still be OK?

    So sorry you lost a hen. I too live in the forest - we use "berry netting" over the coop - it weighs pretty much nothing and you can drape it over / work it around trees. Just make sure to throw a handfull of leaves up on it so the owls etc see it before swooping in and getting tangled in it...
