I do think my chickens struggle when it’s hot but…
People often say don’t heat your coop in the winter. The chickens will acclimate.
I think that’s true.
I think the reverse is also mostly true? Unless you live in a super hot place where the temps get well above 90F, I think following the...
I have a pretty normal livestock setup that is also effective for chickens. Alternating hot / ground wires (I think 3” apart, would have to check). Zareba charger.
With small chickens, we’ve had some escapees in the past but they either learn or grow quickly enough that they eventually see it...
I’d keep him in a cage, separated from the hens for a week or so.
Even if the hens didn’t attack him, it would be a good idea to keep him in there for a while so he won’t run away.
I would agree with you, they are roosters.
I have 6, six month old barred plymouth rock roosters and 32 hens. At least so far, I haven’t seen any real fights. They started hitting maturity around two-three weeks ago.
Not to derail the thread but what is too hot for chickens?
We got our first chickens last year and we didn’t have a proper enclosed chicken coop until winter.
Anyone tried a diet change to fix sleeping problems?
I’ve had problems falling asleep for about a year. Just over a year ago I started sleeping normally again.
I’ve got Crohn’s disease and a couple years ago I went low carb. At the same time, I basically went vegetarian, with very little meat...
For that maticoopx, I wouldn’t say it’s difficult to close, you just have to align it properly when closing. I think it was more of a user issue, although some sensor would have been nice to detect broken seal and alert somehow.
Overall I think a lot of it depends how many eggs you’re planning...
I bought a maticoopx 30-egg incubator on Amazon. Looks like it’s as well rated as the kebonnix. Sounds kind of the same, maybe the same manufacturer?
I had 27 eggs of which 21 hatched back in January. The lid didn’t quite close right one night, which I think affected the hatch rate (there’s a...
Just about anything. I’d say 60% home left overs (I’ve got a couple sources), the rest is a mixture of corn, oats and chicken feed. I supplement them with ground up egg shells pretty much every meal (unless I forget). The egg shells they lay is pretty much what they get back.
Yes! Here’s also...
Hi Everyone,
I have two three-hole chicken nest boxes that were purchased on Amazon. Chinese design, not branded, plenty of copy cats of it.
The problem that I have with it is the depth of the collection box. It’s slanted, no problems with eggs rolling down. Plenty of times I’ve seen chickens...
