    Messy Butts

Thanks to all. I just was able to bet back to read replies. I have been noticing some diarrhea occasionally but don't know who it's from. I'm going to try the garden hose tho. And it's suppose to cool a bit this week. Thank you for all your suggestions.

    Messy Butts

Some of my hens have messy Bottoms. I have been googling these symptoms. I don't see any signs of mites and they are acting, eating, and laying just fine. I gave them epsom salt baths. My Rhode Island is quite plump and thought maybe the feathers were just to full around her rear but I see it on...

    Dust bath for chicks

Can I ask a question here. I picked up 2 barred rocks yest. I put them in with 5 chicks my daughter brought home from TSC on 4/20. They seem to be getting along fine. i mean they aren't getting pecked on. Is this ok to mix different ages together ? Also I am in Indianapolis IN. We're having a...

I'm sure a lot of you raise your own mealworms. My daughter got me the necessary items to get started as a Christmas gift. So I have the mealworms in a top drawer, pupa in the second and have gotten maybe 10 beetles that have hatched and they are in the bottom drawer. Looking at them today my...

    Winter egg laying

I have been wondering what to expect also. I'm in Indianapolis IN. We've had a few nights in the 20's mostly 30's and day temps mid 30's to 40's. Only snowed once here so far. I have 8 hens , no supplemental lighting and I'm typically getting 7 a day. My hens are about 9 months. Got my first...

Winterizing a small coop (7 chickens)

I am in Indianapolis IN. By the end of the day we will be in the 20's with below zero wind chills into Tues. I have been slowly converting the vinyl shed on the left into the new coop. They are presently in the coop on the right. I have 8 hens and feel it is way to small. But with the bad...

I just FINALLY finished with my 8 hens. The 2 leghorns were impossible to catch and they were the worst culprits at getting over my fence and into my neighbors yards. This process was made harder trying to dodge a very angry aggressive rooster at the same time. I have been trying to rehome that...

    Flying Chickens

What can anyone tell me about clipping chicken wings. It started with 2 of my hens flying up onto the fence and then into other yards and its as if the others are watching and doing the same thing. Also my rooster has turned into the rooster from you know where. He's become soo aggressive my...

    When to give grit

I just started giving my chicks a very few pieces of food crap. They are just shy of 8 wks old. I read you should also supply chicken grit to help with digestion. Do I sprinkle it on the ground or add it too the food.
