Agreed. Morning the comb is a dull red, by afternoon the red is bright, and she is squawking like crazy. Then she goes in and does her thing, and comes out, and later her comb is about dull red. It is crazy how it combs can change that fast.
My son is 5 and loves to go get the eggs. We usually make sure there is one first, and then he likes to go run and does not want us to help him. He is so proud when he gathers the egg and shows us. Its been fun.
I got my chicks end of March/1st of April and one started laying 2 weeks ago, and the other started a week. 2 of my chicks still have not started laying yet.
This is about their 2nd week to be out there. So I will give it some more time and let them free range with the bigger chickens and monitor them and see how they do. I just don't know what to do if one chick keeps chasing them down.
How long do you wait to let the chicks go with the hens? We have some 2 month old chicks. Right now we have them separated. I know they are too small, but at what time do you mix them with the big chicks/hens. We let them out and there was really one chick that goes after them, the other 3 don't...
I now have two hens that are laying eggs. They both seem to found a spot to lay in the coop. One lays in one corner, the other lays in another corner. We put up some beautiful curtains to give them some "privacy" and make it dark, but they still have not gone in there? Do you know what it could...
Who all does it? It’s been 105 here and getting the itch to get 4 more. They would be on back patio locked up in some shade but would they get too hot? Raised some in the garage in April but now my garage is a sauna with this heat. Advice?

My Chickens are not clipped but they seem to of found a new roost. They go up on top of the Chicken run and want to stay up there. If I did not get them down they would probably would stay up there at night. They did well going into the coop and will go in here if I shut the run door. Door is on...
When do you open the nest box? I sealed it off and my chickens are 3 month old. They are still a little ways off, but did not know when I should go ahead and open the nest box. They sleep on the roost, so I don't see them going in there to sleep, but you never know.
Thanks!
